Recently we were dying for some BBQ and the pickins that late at night were pretty slim. After calling around a to a few places with no luck, we happened upon Smoke & Barrel. What a lucky turn of events this was!We decided to get a BBQ sampler, since we didn't want to decide on what to get and could try a bunch of stuff. The sampler for 2 came with chicken wings, ribs, brisket, and sides. We got mashed potatoes, collard greens, and baked beans. All of this was absolutely delicious! (Except the collard greens, they were so so). The sauce was as thick as molasses and some of the best BBQ sauce I've ever had. The rib meat just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. I could go on and on. I do have to say that I really loved the mashed potatoes though. They were whipped and herby and amazing. Get them! The surprise of the evening was the smoked vegan wings. Those bastards were really damn good! I didn't think I would love them, but I really did! I have no clue what they were made of but i really enjoyed them!Overall, this place has some knock out BBQ! Try it out!
Great menu for omnivores and plant based folks alike. Their plentiful, interesting, and high quality vegetarian and vegan options can not compare to other restaurants in the area. Thanks for this.
We've gotten delivery from here a few times recently, and the food is delicious. I can't recommend the brisket sandwich highly enough, particularly with a side of either garlic mashed potatoes or jalapeño grits. It is somewhat pricier than other BBQ spots, but the quality definitely makes up for that. I also was really happy with the attentiveness of their staff; tonight, we ordered through UberEats, and the courier somehow never picked up the food. Although UberEats support quickly took care of the issue and we reordered, a restaurant staffer called me to check up on the situation because he noticed the same order coming in twice in an hour, which was really nice (especially given that things were probably busy)! Just wanted to shout out good service.
While I can't speak to the dine-in experience, Smoke & Barrel went above and beyond in both food quality and customer service!!!!! I would give this experience 1000000000 stars and the right to name my first-born child if that's something they wanted. I ordered the Grand Sampler for me and my two roommates to celebrate my grad axgraduation. It came with chicken, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and four sides. I am not exaggerating when I say everything was PERFECT. The ribs were some of the best I've ever had, perfectly fall off the bone and tender. The chicken was moist, the pork and brisket both well-cooked and juicy. The sides?? Phenomenal. I was skeptical of grits, as I went to college in the deep south, but their jalapeño cheddar grits were outstanding. The sweet potato fries, the mashed potatoes, the coleslaw, and the mac and cheese were amazing too. Usually mac and cheese is too soggy for me at a bbq joint, but this one was the right mix of saucy and cheese. I cannot wait until the pandemic is over so that I can dine here in person!!! I am writing this while we digest a little before we eat the sweet potato donuts, but those smell absolutely amazing and I have no doubt they will be outstanding. (Edit- out of this world good. Thankfully we didn't have room to finish them so I can have some tomorrow as well!) More than that, Smoke & Barrel went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. I added in the notes that this was a celebration, and they threw in an extra treat with a lovely, personalized note congratulating me. It was so incredibly kind and thoughtful. Thank you so much, Smoke & Barrel team!! You'll be seeing me again soon :)
Amazing!!! Ordered here via Uber eats and received the food perfectly packaged, still warm, and DELICIOUS!! Thank you so much! Can’t wait to visit in person once everything opens back up!!!!
Great bbq, hands down. It travelled well on delivery. The grand sampler platter has so much food for a real good price. This bbq is authentic - smokey, moist, and savory. The meats were perfectly lean. Definitely recommend the corn bread as a sweet dessert. Glad we found this place. Highly recommend.
Smoke and Barrel is the best! My favorite dish is the Vegan Juicy Burger. The fries are amazing as well. I also like the vegan bbq wings!
Greens great! beans just sweet enough not too? much ribs ?
Ordered through UberEats, and as a bbq lover this was a bit of a disappointment. My bbq pork sandwich left much to be desired- the pork itself was average but there was hardly any bbq sauce on the sandwich and paper wrapping could've prevented the bun from becoming soggy. The Mac and cheese looked nothing like the picture- very similar to plain elbow macaroni and the amount of grease sitting at the bottom is concerning. Not at all impressed with my first time :/
Best BBQ food in Washington, DC. Vegetarian/vegan friendly. Great staff and service. Meat or meatless, this is your spot!
Best vegan wings I've ever had! We had some other food here and it was good but the wings were the highlight. The environment is fun and friendly, staff is great and I loved the music.
This place looks like it might be quite good at certain times of day. We came here at 1530 on a Friday wanting beer and food. The times on the door conflicted with the times on the board outside, but it turns out it was open... Sort of. We were given two menus, from which we chose food. Nothing we wanted was available. In fact, nothing at all on one of the menus was available, and only some things on the other. I had a beer, which was good and very cheap, and we left to find somewhere a bit more organised. I gather that this bar is quite popular at certain times of day, but as it goes it's going to carry on missing out on the weekday lunch revenue.
My friends and I decided to come here for brunch on Saturday and surprisingly it wasn't packed. It did take a little while to get our food but it was so worth it. I tried the vegan sampler and was being a little picky (because I hate tofu and coleslaw) but our waiter was extremely nice and accommodated my requests. I ended up getting the vegan wings, spare ribs, chili, and cornbread. Everything was amazing.
Rather underwhelmed with my eating experience here. Lots of craft beers on the menu which is one reason why we chose this place - enjoyed the beers. The food was mediocre; we shared a platter with brisket, wings, ribs, and pork of some kind with mac n cheese as a side and coleslaw. Did not enjoy the coleslaw at all, mac n cheese was average. I found I had to lay on the BBQ sauce for the brisket and pork. Wings and ribs already in sauce were good.
The place was quiet probably because I went there on weekdays. I loved their philly! Would recommend!
