Really good pasta , nice salad. Beautiful restaurant. Staff was very good. Will definitely try again.
I've only eaten the food here twice, once was takeout, the last time was dine in (pandemic street seating), both times the quality of food was exceptional. The dishes are far beyond your average Italian fare in both selection and execution. It was the first time me and my wife went out since the pandemic started and this place handled reservations and seating well. I saw on some older reviews that maybe they have service issues but this was decidedly not the case for our experience. Give them a try!
We stopped by Al Volo because it was suggested by a coworker. We decided to dine outside so we could bring our dog, Wally. As soon as we sat, the waitress brought us a bowl of water for him and we were very grateful! We shared the meat arancini (which was crispy and so delicious! Only suggestion- serve with a little more sauce) and each ordered a drink to start- I the Limoncelli martini, he the spritzer named after the restaurant. Though his spritzer was good, we both agreed the Limoncelli martini blew the other away- it was just perfect on a hot summer day and we will order that again. For dinner I ordered the Pesto pasta, which I would also order again. It was creamy, not overly pesto-y, and amazing . My boyfriend ordered the squid ink pasta. He said it was delicious but he would have liked a little more seafood in the dish.
Cannot recommend highly enough - the best pasta dishes I've tried in the DMV area (and I visited Trattoria Al Volo just after returning from a 2.5 week trip through Italy) We ordered the Pappardelle All 'Agnello & Ravioli Di Burrata
These guys are doing an amazing job with their take out during this crazy social distancing time. My family is really trying to support our local businesses right now and have ordered pick up several times. They keep getting better as they figure out the best format for take out and they are using every precaution. Thank you all so much. We will continue to be customers now and when we can sit in your restaurant again.
I love this neighborhood Italian restaurant. I walk pass by this place weekly, but never had a chance to try it. Who knew I could get authentic fresh pasta just down the street owned by two Italians. I went before the restos closed down, thank goodness! We started with the calamari, octopus, and eggplant pargamiana. Then we had their delicious seafood squid ink pasta and classic pork belly carbonara. Paired with their Anthilia wine (50% off right now!). Finished off with spritzers I recommend ordering take out for the time being, but when they open back up for dining in service I can't wait to return in their ambiance, which makes you feel like you're in Italy with their cute tiles and romantic lighting.
I ordered takeout yesterday - had the carbonara, wine, and tiramisu. Absolutely amazing. I noticed they also sell fresh pasta, will be trying out cooking next time! Also really enjoy the bolognese and this is the only place I go for it.
Al Volo made our "date night in" amazing with their carry-out dinner options! The staff was so kind and hygienic when I arrived and they included extra focaccia (my favorite)! They delivered perfectly our special requested include pasta substations and anchovies on the side. Thank you Al Volo!!
I really enjoyed this place. I didn't plan on going *just* for happy hour, but the appetizers were so filling, I couldn't get to eat the pasta. Our waiter/bartender was so friendly and helpful! Great time, I'll definitely be back.
Nice Italian venue. Huge bar! Had a great old fashioned cocktail. We had a big group and tried everything. Favored the pasta dishes the most. Desserts stood out. Worthy of a visit for sure.
Delicious and quaint! Visiting DC for work so wasn't sure what to expect of this restaurant. It was delicious! Service was very good. Server knew the menu well and shared his recommendations. Definitely plan to visit again when I'm in DC.
Excellent italian place . I loved the drinks especially the Negroni .
The reviews seem to agree service is poor--they really need to fix it. It's friendly but inept: not listening and then making no effort to fix mistakes--it's not enough to say this isn't what I ordered. You have to ask for the fix.

Another time, I wasn't asked in the first place how I wanted my meat cooked and then wasn't asked again when I sent it back but she decided for me--and was ordering what I'd never choose. I've never regretted ordering medium rare, but this was too rare. The waitress did check with me from time to time, but when I needed something, I couldn't get her attention and had to ask someone else. They need to hire pros or do some training. Food also was uneven. Delicious, tender octopus and fat juicy lamb chops one day; rubbery minimally flavorful octopus and skinny lamb chops on Saturday. Great pasta sauce vs skimpy pasta sauce. With the weird service and unreliable food, it's too risky to eat there--I won't be back, though I was about to be an octopus frequent flyer.
