You have to order off a big board like a street vendor. The steak burrito is good. It is cool inside, helpful on a hot day in gator town.

In a food scene that’s largely catered to middle American tastes, this restaurant has been a personal mainstay and I’ve often recommended it to Mexican visitors to Gainesville looking for something familiar. The tacos are wonderful (especially the tacos de tripa) and the platters I’ve tried were solid. So why am I leaving a three star review?I decided to change things up recently and ordered a torta de pollo. It was easily the WORST torta de pollo I’ve ever tried; it came as a huge shock in consideration of the other food items I’ve tried here. The meat was extremely dry and the lack of seasoning led me to believe that they boiled the chicken in a vat of (barely) salted water, threw it into the torta, and called it a day. The avocado and lettuce were hastily cut into large, cumbersome pieces. The cabeza taco wasn’t much better but the salsa definitely saved it. I ultimately ended up giving what was left of the chicken in the torta to my chihuahua after I attempted offering it to my boyfriendSeeing as how the restaurant was packed that day, I can forgive the incident fairly easily but it was certainly a shock compared to my last visits to this restaurant

La Tienda is all about the food. The venue is clean, but basic. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. But the food is authentic and delicious.

The meats had little flavor or spice and the rest of the food was boring and bland. They had some salsas that were tasty, but overall I have no intentions of going back.Parking: Few spots behind location, but empty dirt lot nearby.

DRY AND DISAPPOINTING!!Ordered Pollo (chicken) tacos and chips with queso and Salsa. This was the most disappointing tacos I have ever had, the chicken was so dry and chewy, the taco didn't taste like anything, just bland and rubbery with no interesting toppings either. I had such high hopes from La Tienda given their reviews, but I felt it was a complete waste of the money. The chips, salsa and queso was good enough to save the day. They have clean washrooms and ample seating area. I hope they do better, but this was a bad experience.
First time here. Found out about La Tienda from Gainesville's top 10 places to eat. Food was phenomenal, and the establishment is very clean. There is even a grocery store. Don't think twice, GO!

Update 2/27/2024. It has been years since I have eaten at this place since I no longer work in the areaand wow has it changed. Stopped by with my parents after my father's appt at the VA. The prices have gone up, which I guess is to be expected. I ordered my go to. 3 tacos - lengua, cabeza and al pastor. The only decent taco was the tongue taco. The others had cold overcooked meat and I got food poisoning. My dad got the chicken soup which was ok but super salty. My mom had 2 meat tacos and 1 chicken taco. She didn't get as sick as I am but still experienced stomach upset. Sadly, I can not recommend this restaurant any longer.THE place for authentic Mexican. All the tacos are fantastic. If you are daring try the tripe and cabeza tacos. Tacos Al Pastor are also awesome. If you are feeling under the weather or need some comfort food, the chicken soup is amazing..can wake the dead!
