First of all, we were able to get a reservation with no fuss (unlike at Duke's Waikiki). Service was excellent and not intrusive. We tried several foods and liked them all - Brussels sprouts appetizer, calamari- but the tiny squid was a bit undercooked, the paella is quite tasty - even though it looked small, 3 of us still had leftovers. The baked cake desert was so good. The fish was delicious. And they let us sit and just visit with our friend. I would return.

The filet mignon was outstanding and you could cut it with a fork. The whole meal was outstanding. We highly recommend you give them a visit. The staff asked if we were celebrating anything and we told them that we were celebrating our 50th Anniversary and with our dessert they also sent out a cake with 50th Anniversary written in chocolate on the plate. It was wonderful.

Love this place. Really great bar staff. Amazing happy hour. Killer food and drinks.

Just had an app, beers and salads. Salads were drenched in dressing, app was overcooked. Beer was good. They say they opened this place based on an eating house opened by one of my ancestors ... should sue for defamation

Great food and great service! Came here for anniversary dinner and had an amazing experience. Their burgers are so fresh and BIG, be prepared to eat. Fish is so fresh and cooked perfectly! The seafood is a bit more costly, but totally worth it if you love seafood.

Beautiful location and fantastic menu... All flavors were above expectations. The only drawback was the lack of air-conditioning in some of the back rooms.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Eating House. Food was excellent. Music was good but volume made conversation difficult.

I thought this place would be way more interesting given Roy's name is on it. We ordered the angry general and the crab melt. The crab melt had a good helping of real crab and the bread was toasted nicely. It was good but nothing special. The angry general also was good but not Wowza. The chicken was moist and had a good crunch. The heat wasn't too hot but I couldn't really taste the flavors of the sauce distinctly and the slaw was lost in the mix. The brioche bun was fresh. The worst part of the meal was the salad that came with the sandwiches. It looked like the salad mix from Costco with nothing but greens and the dressing was flavorless. Service was friendly and prompt.

First off! Gotta find Parking, that's first on the agenda, and near International Market Place, that's the location of the Resturant. The Resturant is on the third floor, so options escalator or elevator to get to the top level, where all the eateries are located. They have a large entry area, with a few comfy chairs, if you have to wait. I know they are comfy, because I saw some island visitors knocked out and catching some zzzzzz's! Our group of maybe 40-plus sat in a corner of the patio section taking almost 4 rows of tables, maybe 22- to a table, and still have elbow room. They have edamame as a pupu on the tables, and the host of the party had ordered 4/5 pupu platters for all our tables. They consisted of seared ahi w/ chines hot mustard and teriyaki drizzle, spicy ribs, grilled Brussels sprout and cauliflower melody ( balsamic drizzle), and kalua pork egg rolls Our entrees' were choices of braised short ribs, shrimp and risotto and paella'! Everyone in our party had something of everything. It was open bar, so I did observe a few variety's of adult beverages. During our pupu session, they have a local musician playing live music... it was good! Ok, the food! Everything g was delicious, from the pupu dishes to the main courses. Some of us shared so we sampled a little of everything! And then dessert! Jus' proportioned correctly you end a great s great meal, with a fantastic group of people, literally from around the world! If I had a globe to point at, from the Hawaiian Islands to Asia, South America, London, Sydney , Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala and I'm sure I missed someone from some where! Thank you Eating House , for hosting our Boss's Retirement Party! Your front line employees, were gracious and served with the Aloha that your place represents! Mahalo!!!

Rustic feeling, two things that was not good: first the air was warm, I don't think they have air conditioning where we were... we were next to the kitchen. The second is the food took a really really long time. What I liked is that the staff were constantly refilling our water, the server answered all our questions (asked the female in the front about vegan options-but she said my server could help.. she was right because he did ). The chef was accommodating on the ramen, asked if they could make a vegan style ramen. We were a party of seven and majority enjoyed their meal. The fresh catch of the day, one of our party did not like it. There were hardly that much customers there but our meal took a really long time to come out :( They validate - $2.00 for the first two hours, we were there for about 2.5 hrs and we paid $4.00. There were lots of parking spaces when we arrived and a lot of electric car chargers which was a plus. They also valet park, but with all the open spaces and charging stations, I chose to self park.

Audrey and Jason at the bar are the absolute best in Waikiki service. At the International Market Place. Always attentive and cheerful. And makes you feel like family. I've returned many times bcoz I know I will be taken care off. Whether you're a local or tourist it the bomb!

My husband and I enjoyed dinner at Eating House recently and thoroughly enjoyed every part of the meal. The ahi appetizer, the butterfish entree, and the cream puffs were all amazing. Nice atmosphere, very enjoyable meal.

Reading some reviews, I really enjoyed learning that this place recognizes its historic roots. This was one of my favorite restaurants while visiting Honolulu. I checked in and got the associated check in offer which allowed me to the try more on the menu than I originally was. It was a free app that resembled beef jerky. Overall the service was exceptional as well as the food. There was a wide variety of options from salad, to different asian cuisines, to burgers and steak. If I had the time or room in my stomach I definitely would have tried the 30 minute dessert. Definitely something that would drive my interests to going back. My water glass never went empty and I seriously appreciated that.

What an amazing meal and experience at Eating House 1849! I went to the location in Kauai and was excited to try the Waikiki location. Seriously, the food was delicious but what really made the meal was our two waiter and waitress. Sasha and Dylan was fantastic! They were so knowledgeable about the food and made our experience a 10/10! The service and the food were fantastic! We will be back for sure.

Weâ??ve eaten at the 1849 on Kauai, so thought weâ??d try this one. We were not disappointed. The butterfish was excellent, fresh salads, and the Kauai Shrimp were outstanding. Cooked perfectly and not to spicy.

Highly recommend you stop by for the Happy Hour. Half price food and drink a big saving for the budget. Very friendly staff and great finger food.

Great food and fast service. Maybe a little too fast.

To Eating House 1849 in the International Marketplace in Waikiki. James Beard Award-winning chef Roy Yamaguchi is the force behind it. The name pays homage to the first restaurant in Honolulu in 1849, called Eating House, that was popular with plantation workers. A beautiful evening meant it was time to dine outdoors. When you're first seated, a bowl of spicy edamame arrives. It puts you in the mood for cocktail. I order my go-to, Hendricks & Tonic. Dining solo, I found Louis, my server, to be very accommodating. He got me half orders of the Pork Belly Bao Buns and Ahi Poke. Both highly lauded by Yelpers. For my entrée, I order the Misoyaki Butterfish, that was so tender, you didn't even have to chew it. Beautiful presentation. For dessert, the Banana Lumpia. As much as I'm a fan of banana, the lumpia wrappers didn't add a good taste. But the ice cream was great.

This little gem is located at the International Marketplace. It gives you an old plantation feel. We were fortunate to have been seated right away. Our server was really helpful & sweet, but very soft spoken. I could barely hear her recommendations on the menu or the specials of the day. But from I could hear recommended the pork belly bao for our starters, which we ordered, pipikaula & crispy calamari. All of them had been delicious! For our entrees, my husband ordered a top sirloin - medium rare with a butter dipping sauce & I had the Eating House Style Paella. The steak was medium well (too dry), but the butter dipping sauce made up for it. Now, the paella?! AWESOME! Just enough spice that it's not over spicy. DE-LI-CIOUS! Our server asked us while we were putting our appetizer & drink order, if we would be ordering dessert? How strange to ask us at the beginning, I thought to myself. But, she explained that the chocolate souffle takes 30 minutes to make. So of course we had put the order in. When our chocolate souffle came it was pippin' hot. When you crack it open the molten chocolate just oozes out in a heavenly bliss. And the contrast of vanilla ice cream with the raspberry sauce with the souffle made your mouth sing for JOY! Because it's our Anniversary, our server brought out a cute but delicious banana dessert that had "Happy 5th Anniversary"! ** This place is cute in the heart of Waikiki, a nice happy hour spot or just to play catch up with your girlfriends with a bottle of wine after a long hard day of shopping.

The food was cooked to perfection and just melted in your mouth. Full of flavor and presented beautifully.

Stopped here for lunch mid-afternoon on a Sunday. The menu is limited to some small plates, salads, Raman bowls, and sandwiches. We went with the E.H. burger made with a combination Portuguese sausage, beef, and wild boar topped with cheese, bacon jam, and a couple onion rings and served with a half greens salad. . . The burger was fairly good but way too salty (indeed almost overpoweringly salty). The accompanying salad was completely nondescript - just some leaves with a vinaigrette dressing. Afterwards, we decided to add some dessert going with their rendition of Philippine halo halo - it too was nothing spectacular. Service throughout was only so so. . . Overall, an okay meal but not something that made us want to come back for more.

Nicely done, "Roy's 2.0". Quality of food, service and price as expected. Well lit with casual but

This place is located on the 3rd floor of the International Market Place shopping center. It's a unique dining experience is how I can explain it. The food is of high quality with a twist. I had the Salmon with noodles and for dessert, it was some kind of banana wrap. Both were delicious. My nephew had some kind of Beet salad and my brother had the pork/rib dinner...they both enjoyed it. Keep in mind it does get pricey. Including drinks for the 3 of us came to about $240. Service was a little slow but the personality of the waitress and the person that brought out the food made up for it. I hope my pictures help. But I do recommend this place for a try.

As we have enjoyed Royâ??s restaurants throughout the years in our visits to Honolulu, this was a very pleasant surprise to discover Eating House 1849 in the modernized International Market Place.. . Very nice urban open air ambience accented with trees and plants is the setting for a great meal. We will definitely return. . . Highly recommend the shrimp and vegetable tempura ramen and garlic ahi salad! I also had a special lilikoi mango drink. I am never disappointed with anything that contains lilikoi!

My girlfriend and I were visiting from Vancouver, Canada and saw this place in a magazine. I'm glad we did. This restaurant has a beautiful ambiance, and the food is excellent. What made this place stand out to us however was the incredible service. The staff is not only extremely knowledgeable of the menu but they were highly attentive. We were blown away by our server, Louis. The guy was world class in his hospitality. If you get lucky to be served by this individual you will not be disappointed. The other staff helping out as well were just as professional. Bryson who was part of the wait staff treated us like gold. If these two individuals reflect the entire team at The Eating House then you are in great hands. We will definitely be coming back!

This place should be at least 4.5 stars. DELICIOUS butterfish. DELICIOUS Bao Buns. DELICIOUS cocktails (order the Rooster Kick). Perfect dinner. Perfect atmosphere. Perfect love music.

This restaurant by chef Roy Yamaguchi In Waikiki is great and has a lovely terrace. Food is lovely! Try the paella for one (in a nice cast iron pan) or the double poke ! The ribs for appetizers are great! We will be back! Mahalo!

Honestly, I don't know why anyone would rate this any less than five stars. Our service, food, consistent "how's everything going?", refills, just everything was amazing. We ordered a bunch of things, but our favorite was the Szechuan baby back ribs! Thank you Tina for your awesome service. Visit this place, you won't regret it.

We stopped here for snacks and drinks while shopping. Food and drinks were great, but the staff made the visit. They were helpful and knowledgeable when it came to recommendations and very attentive and friendly. Will return.

Had lunch here @ Eating House the day we arrived from the main land. The place is just relaxed, laidback, a plus in the al fresco feel. My son had the Loco Moco, I had the EH ahi bowl, my husband had the tempura ramen. Oh not to forget the brussel sprouts w/ cauliflower. I have to say everything was very good! We ended up tasting each otherâ??s dish w/ a nod of approval. Our waiter Bryson was extremely knowledgeable and loves what he does. His recommendations were right on! Our busboy Dwayne was very polite and attentive. A good way to start our vacation. We told Teves, the bar manager to commend those 2 for doing such a great job!

My friends and I came here for one of our friend's birthday. We basically ate family-style and split a bunch of appetizers including the crispy fried cauliflower and brussels sprouts, lola's pork adobo lumpia, crispy chicken wings, kiawe smoked szechuan baby back ribs, fries, and salad. The food was tasty but it didn't wow me. The ribs were a bit on the tougher side while the cauliflower was a little too soft (if you tried to pick the cauliflower up with something other than a spoon, it would fall apart). The workers were super nice and even took a photo of us at our table! But unfortunately, the food wasn't mind blowing -- it was just average. Might come back, might not.

I had the soy glazed black cod and it was DELICIOUS. My friend had the scallops and it was amazing, too. I also tripped getting seated cuz there was an uneven floor in the middle of the restaurant. As I was leaving, I noticed they put a rug over that area. Quick thinking and good customer care by management. I will return when I go back to Honolulu. A little pricey, but when in Hawaii.....

GREAT AMBIANCE, TASTY BUNS Went here with some friends for dinner on a Saturday night. Very glad that I called to make reservations beforehand. (Highly suggest calling ahead if you plan on eating here.) We were seated in the patio section and were able to enjoy the cool breeze. Shoutout to the man playing cover songs on his uke! For starters, I had the Pork Belly Bao Buns. You get to create your own bao as the buns and filling come separately. The pork had a little crisp and was deliciously both savory and sweet, surrounded by the soft pillowy bun. Just melt's in your mouth. I ordered the Eating House Paella which had chorizo, shrimp, Portuguese sausage and clams. The blend of meats gives it a nice rich flavor. It had more of a risotto texture, as there was a lot of sauce for a paella. Due to the excess sauce, it was also lacking the crispy rice at the bottom of the pan, which happens to be one of my favorite parts about this dish! The serving was appropriate for 1 person, so I wouldn't recommend sharing. Service was attentive and very nice. Menu items are on the pricier side but is on par with the prices of other restaurants on this floor of International Market Place. Would definitely recommend this place for eating out with family and friends.

6/25/19 We weren't that hungry for our dinner at the Eating House. Probably because we had arrived in Oahu at 3 p.m. their time and were starving for lunch so we had eaten ramen and our reservations here were a mere 2 hours later. We opted for appetizers and ordered: Crispy Calamari which was overly rubbery like it was old. Kiawe Smoked Szechuan Baby Back Ribs. A tad on the dry side. Pork Belly Bao Buns. I haven't found a place that I enjoy this dish at. Everyone gets it wrong. All in all, I was pretty disappointed with the Eating House. Based on their reviews I thought it would be better. Plus, I didn't like that where they seated us (by the bar) I was getting wet from the rain. There was a gap in the ceiling and it was pouring that night and I was getting wet just sitting there inside. They should really fix that.

This place is delicious! The food is cooked to perfection and the ambiance is perfect for a nice family dinner or a date night:) I came here with my family the other night and we were all in food comas by the end of the night. The butterfish is so buttery and packed with flavor as well as the baby back ribs! And if you want a fancy cocktail.. they have those too. The cocktails are so yummy and I love the tropical flavors. It really emphasizes you being on vacation!

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Food was good. Ordered the brussel sprouts and kale salad and added chicken to it. Not usually a big Brussel sprout fan but it was recommended and so glad I got it. The flavors were very good. We were surprised at how much it all was. Definitely a bit on the expensive side.

Excellent dinner for a ladies night bachelorette of 6. Kimmie was our server and was soo excellent. Incredibly helpful, awesome all around and made for a great experience! Snow crab was delicious! Pupikaula was DELICIOUS! Ok- everything was excellent. Good prices on wine too!

What a find! Warm, welcoming and outstanding vibe. Singer and guitar player set the tone. Service was impeccable, very attentive. Food was tasty, fresh- the best scallops Iâ??ve had in a long time. And if you have time order the soufflé. We will be back before heading home

We here at Chapel Hats are HUGE fans of The Eating House. Almost all of our employees are huge fans of the "Power Hour" in particular. From 5 to 6 pm, all the happy hour appetizers are half off. The salad (see picture) in particular is amazing, and SO affordable. They also have amazing drink specials at this time, and we encourage all of our guests down at the hat shop to make their way up there! Amazing staff, service, food, and best of all price! Thanks for keeping our employees fed guys!
