This is my favorite place to get katsu curry — their portions are generous and the curry itself has got good chunks of beef and carrots (unlike the other popular curry place in the same mall). Plus, meals come with a side of kimchee.Service is pleasant. The unfortunate thing about this place is it’s kind of separated from the rest of the mall, therefore not as accessible.

10/22/23-another visit here for a late lunch. Only one other table occupied. Our server was quick to take our order. Gorgeous sunny day today. The place is well lit and clean except for one table that they use for employees. It's located right below the television. The kim chee is delicious and the serving size is plentiful.Only downside today is that my spoon tasted and smelled like bleach. I had to ask for another spoon. It's good to clean the utensils, but a good rinse is needed!

Ordered Tonkotsu Ramen and Yuzu Tsukemen. Soup was quite lacking in flavour and Tsukemen sauce was way too salty IMO. Hard-boiled egg also tasted like it's been in the fridge a bit too long. Portions size was huge (lots of noodles), but best tasting thing was the tofu. Not sure if we ordered the wrong things, but definitely wished we ate elsewhere.

For some reason, I thought they were closed since the beginning of covid, but to my surprise, a friend posted that he recently went to Taiyo, and since I was in the area, I found that they were still open!Yes, Taiyo is still open, and my favorite Mabo Tofu, which nobody else makes it like they do was still a piping hot big bowl of noodles, drenched with large pieces of tofu with a korean style mabo tofu taste that satisfied me fully and rolling out the door. My friend said, OMG you ate all that?My fried ordered the katsu curry rice, and couldn't finish it, telling me to roll him out the door.As to mentioning that I thought they were closed several years ago, the lady did mention that they never did close, and they postponed the construction to build a new condo there, so they are going to be open until they are told to leave, but doesn't seem like anytime soon.Service was fast and courteous as usual. They still had the tv on the wall playing a kdrama.Lots of parking since Nijiya moved to inside Ala Moana. I will definitely be visiting Taiyo again to get my mabo tofu ramen fix.

I love their miso ramen. It's a go to when needing a hot soup. Service is good and lots of parking since Nijiya moved.

After many mishaps with the food in Hawaii, we did not have high expectations. This food court ramen restaurant really exceeded all my expectations. The ramen noodle was bouncy, which was unexpected. The soup seasoning was a bit on the heavy side, and that is just the way I like it. I will definitely return during my stay.

Aw what a gem to find on a rainy weekday afternoon! Tucked in the same plaza as eggs n things-- Thai little mom and pop shop has your soup and noodle fix! Their oxtail soup was good! Full of flavor and tons of meat! They do include few pieces of mushroom and bok Choy which I actually enjoyed. I opted to get it with rice but you can also also get it with ramen! The gyoza were also very good! Perfectly crispy at the bottom with flavorful filling. The mapo tofu was a generous amount and served on top of rice. My boyfriend ordered this and said it was great! They also gave us a side of homemade kimchi on the side which was really good! You can buy a container of their homemade kimchi for $5 :) Rumor has it that they'll be closing along with this plaza sometime, so we def will be back to try more of their soups!

Taiyo Ramen is still OPEN!!! News that they were closing was maybe last year???... so I naturally assumed they closed already. To my surprise while searching "Chicken Katsu Curry" in Yelp, there were recent reviews posted. What?? Called to confirm. They close at 9pm weeknights. They'll remain Open... as long as they can - till final notice is given. So GO... get your fix of (what I believe was) the very 1st place that served "Chicken Katsu Curry Rice" (yes, I dined there when they were located at the Keeaumoku side of the mall, near Chicken Alice's and opened till late - 24yrs ago). Don't forget the side of Kim Chee... THE BEST!!! You can purchase a container to take home for $5. I did. Taiyo Ramen will be missed... enjoy while u can.

20 years ago, I worked at the baseball card store behind the original location; used to eat here at least twice a week for a year before I went to college. Back in town visiting and heard they would be closing soon. Ordered my old favorites - pork fried rice, beef curry, and gyoza. It's like I went back in time 20 years! The food is still amazing. Thanks for all the great food and memories; enjoy your retirement!
