Every time I'm in Des Moines I have to go there. The food is top notch, and the service is spectacular. Friendly atmosphere, just great place all the way around.

Authentic diner including all that typically entails. Quite busy on a weekend morning, but a short wait.Parking: Busy on a Saturday morning, but I still easily found free parking on the street just outside.

The grits fritter is a good idea, but it lacked sausage, in which it was just not enough I feel the grits should show better with green Chile, sausage and cheese. Really cheaply done and those can be great. I really hope they address the knats around the bar. I know it can be a challenge but this simply states that the drinking wells aren't clean. And no one bothered to address the little annoying friends flying in everything. They can do better here for such a heavy traffic restaurant

Well I renewed my acquaintance with "DRAKE DINER" yesterday and was pleasantly impressed that it's still as good as I remembered. Had my favorite #3 on menu for breakfast Excellent portions Couldn't even eat it all, but everything was delicious. I look forward to returning in the near future
Terrible food. I just moved here from the southwest. I've eaten at this diner twice & ordered my 2 favorites - a southwestern skillet & huevos rancheros. Both were tasteless imitations at best. Example: the rancheros had black beans instead of refried beans, and no tortilla, avocado, spanish rice, or even salsa! Terrible food.
