If I were to dream of running a restaurant, it would look a lot like Her Soup Kitchen. Limited menu items determined by high quality seasonal ingredients, and sandwiches carefully designed with every ingredient playing a role. Not minimalist, yet simple. Elegant and intensely flavorful. Heck you know the place is good if they are a mainstay restaurant only open 3 hours each day M-F.
Today was the first time I ate here, my sister knew the place and we feel lucky it was open in spite of road work signs and blocks on Dubuque. The GF bread, toasted for the sandwiches, was delicious; best GF bread I've had to date; everything was so fresh, the pesto, spinach, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese; everything was clean and scrumptious! We always love eating at this cafe even though it takes some fore thought (as it’s an hour away and only open 11-2). It’s a simple cafe with great food. We seriously had the best ham and potato soup in our life there. Owner popped oust to dining area to chat with us this last time. Really nice family owned business.
