Historical site, but very view seats with a view of the river. Service was extremely slow, and our orders had multiple errors. They corrected most of them, but never received one of the sides and my drink was never refilled. When we reminded them of these things, they adjusted the bill. The food we had was very good, but small portions. We left hungry. It was overpriced.
It was a nice location with a wonderful view but that’s the best thing I can say about it. The vegetable side that was offered on the menu ended up being a mini corn cob that was ice cold on the inside and it seem like the kind that you get in your freezer section and microwave. I ordered the salmon and it came with a side of mushroom risotto and there was nothing fresh about it. It reminded me of my mom mixing rice with cream of mushroom soup. My husband ordered the meat loaf and I thought that the sauce tasted odd. After we left he developed really bad indigestion and we had to go home so that he could take something for it. Staff was very friendly but we asked for more water and after waiting about five minutes asked some different servers for water before we got it. It was the first time that we went there and we won’t be going back.
Fresh ingredients in made from scratch dishes, some-what seasonal. Classy with a charming, relaxed feel. Very wonderful and very Midwest. My husband gets the meatloaf each time as he's a meat-and-potatoes guy who doesn't like any "weird stuff". Where I love trying new dishes and new fusions. We've never had a bad meal, and I truly believe you can't go wrong with whatever you decide to order. Which is great because on a busy day they may run out of the dish you were wanting (one of the perils of a made from scratch kitchen using fresh ingredients). The atmosphere is relaxed, historic, refined, and charming in our very own midwestern way.
Love old homes and love unique menus. This place has both. Only reason they got four stars was because our order got lost and we were waiting long but that is not normal. They took care of our drinks and were very friendly. Worth the stop if you love history and a friendly atmosphere......and the food was good too.
Lovely experience. My husband had the prime rib sandwich (which he liked) and the salty dog (which he didn't, couldn't taste any vodka). I had the 1/2 beet salad (which I LOVED) and the so co old fashioned (also very good). I also had the blue moon cheese soup, which I didn't finish because it was way too salty. If I had gotten only the salad and my husband had gotten a different drink this would have been a 5 star visit.
Went in at 4pm. And it was pretty much dead except for a few people sitting outside. There was a sign that said seat yourself so we did and there were two people refilling coffee and drink containers. They looked at us but didn’t say anything. We sat there for 10 minutes and no one came over or said anything to us. So we just left.

My husband and I stopped in on our way home from a mini-vacation. The Crane and Pelican was highly recommended so we decided to check it out. \n\nWelcoming and friendly staff in a beautiful building. We were glad we made the stop. I had a prime rib sandwich, which was good, but... the chicken and dumpling that my husband ordered was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique place to grab a bite to eat.
The Prime Rib Dinner was not what I was looking for. It was dry and tough with no internal juice. Au jus was served on the side, but that will never overcome poor quality meat. The greens were good. The bread was a poor quality addition.\n\nI heard the crusty chicken was good.\n\nC & P is not a Prime Rib restaurant.
Had an excellent meal with eight colleagues. Service was fantastic as was the food. Several had steaks and some of us enjoyed the salmon. The cauliflower and chutney were perfect accompaniments for the salmon. Wonderful balance with the draft Blue Moon. Neat historic setting in a traditional house. Worth repeating!!
Visiting for the day and was referred to this restaurant by locals. Great food, outstanding quality and excellent service. I would highly recommend going there. Lobster Mac & Cheese - incredible! My wife had the Salmon with Mushroom Risotto - fantastic! The Orange Crepes were a great dessert! Historic setting, will definitely go back!
Loved this place. What a wonderful place with so much history. The views were spectacular and the food was magnificent. Loved the Chicken and Dumplings, the prime rib sandwich was quite tasty and the pea salad is a must! The ending to a great meal was a delicious blueberry pie. We definitely will be back and we have reserved for a large luncheon when we make our travels back with a large group. Can't wait for them to try such a unique and wonderful place. A Definite Must!
We had seen good reviews of this place, so we went there for lunch on our weekday visit. Try to arrive early if you can, because it is a busy, popular place. The service was excellent, even though there was only one waiter there--he was so energetic and attentive! The food was yummy! we can vouch for the salmon patties on beet salad, the homemade vanilla icecream, and the crumb topping apple pie, served warm was truly the best I have ever had, and I'm picky about pies. The view from the house's rooms is delightful, but the food is worth it even if you are not by a window. And you are allowed to stroll about the place and see the decor and the garden, which is a lovely thing to do after you finish your meal.
What a great little place this is!! Located inside an old historic mansion, The Crane and Pelican overlooks the Mississippi River right at the great bend. The food is wonderful, the service is excellent, the atmosphere is quaint, and you don't want to miss the experience of dining here. And as if I can't say enough about this place....they welcome everyone. There is a sign on the door that welcomes everyone no matter your religion, ethnicity, gender identity....all may come and enjoy this amazing little restaurant in historic Leclaire, Iowa.
Food good sevice not so good. They were busy with only one waitress .
