We dined at the Wepa cafe this past weekend. The pastelillos were great! We had the shrimp and the house special of the day (chicken pot pie). They came out piping hot and delicious as always. Served with fry sauce and house made ranch (I would use that dressing on most anything!). So good. We also enjoyed two dishes Bacalao Guisado with a side of yucca, and a Chicken dish with potatoes that I cannot remember the name of. We ordered mofongo with this and paid the up charge for arroz con grandules. There was a few disappointments with our entrees. They were not warm -not cold but not warm at all which was off putting but we’re hungry and did not want to complain. The chicken dish was a little too briny or vinegar tasting for my liking but my date enjoyed it. The Bacalao was disappointing-it was very very salty and again, not warm at all. I’m from the Caribbean so I’m used to salted cod but this was overly so. I have been here a few times and for the most part have always been happy with the meals. But not so much this time. Our waitress was great as is the owner. But the food lacked a bit.

Passing through on my way back east, and i was excited to find some latin flavors. But it missed the mark on so many levels. Seasoning was missing and overall just not puerto rican. Points for making your own dough for the pastelillos. only finished my tostones and those weren’t even that good. The mofongo side well was just eh, and the garlic butter sauce thing had no flavor. I kept tasting it and it had the consistency of water. I really had high hopes.

Great place! The food was great, and I love the big doors they open to give that outdoor feel.

I hope that our dinner experience was unusual for this restaurant. Very loud, marginal food quality, and slow service. The server was quite pleasant and apologetic.

The place was beautiful, a little hard to find from main roads. Excellent food, I bit of Puerto Rico in Boise! I highly recommend for a culinary experience. I recommend the arroz con pollo and Pastelillos!

My recent visit to Wepa Cafe was a complete disaster. We sat on the upper level of the restaurant, which was plagued by wasps. The experience went downhill from there.
I ordered the Pernil, a slow-roasted pork shoulder, expecting a flavorful dish. Instead, it tasted bland, like plain boiled pork. I could literally make better Pernil at home. The mofongo plantain sides were equally disappointing, with an unpleasant consistency and mismatched flavors.
We also tried the Arroz con Pollo, which was served slightly cold and left us with food poisoning. The dish contained something that didn’t mix well with the rice, making it an overall terrible experience.
Wepa Cafe is definitely not a place I would recommend.

I was super excited because PR food is amazing. Unfortunately most of what I ordered really lacked flavor, especially the bacalaitos which were overcooked and tasted like pure oil. No trace of sofrito or sazon to be found. The Churrasco was decent for sure and definitely a plate to get. Honestly I guess I got spoiled living in Hartford ? There's nothing like alcapurrias from Park St. The ones from here looked very uniform and again just pure oil. Such a shame.

The hubs and I enjoyed a late lunch at Wepa Cafe. I had the mofongo (green plantain) with shrimp, rice and beans. The hubs had Carne frita (fried pork). Beautiful presentation, generous quantity, simple yet descriptive menu. Lots of GLUTEN FREE options. We thought the beans were bland and salty but the rest was tasty! Inside or outside seating. Friendly staff. Most entrees were $17-$22. We plan to return!
Dietary restrictions: Many GLUTEN-FREE options.

This Puerto Rican cafe in Boise offers an inviting atmosphere with vibrant decor that transports you straight to the island. The menu features authentic flavors that are expertly prepared. The drinks are a refreshing highlight, perfectly complementing the meal. The friendly and attentive staff make the experience even more enjoyable. I vacation to Puerto Rico about 3 times a year but this is better than any of the restaurant and food I’ve eaten there! The owner was there and gave us great recommendations on what order. Definitely coming back!
