The Swovel is great on so many levels! It’s beautiful in there, especially the molding on the ceiling; the book selection is great and new books are always being added; they sell collector’s editions of P. G. Wodehouse; and one can obtain a good beverage here as well.

Sword and Shovel is so great. The coffee is good, but the service is excellent. My baby spilled my coffee all over the counter, and the sweet ladies working helped me clean it up, and then made me another, no questions asked. Thank you for such great service!

This place is the best! We came all the way from good ol' Alberta to get the Moscow Mood experience, and so far we have not been disappointed! A truly awesome collection of books, with the assurance that we won't be exposed to any woke, ideological goo. Thanks guys for the great work you're doing! God bless.

Walking into Sword & Shovel feels like stepping into a storybook — one where warmth, wisdom, and wonder come together under one roof. This coffee house bookstore isn’t just a place to grab a cup of perfectly brewed coffee or pick up a thought-provoking book — it’s a haven for the soul.
The atmosphere is rich with purpose. Whether you’re sinking into a cozy chair with a book in hand or sipping a handcrafted cappuccino while deep in conversation, there’s a tangible sense of intentionality here. The staff are genuinely kind and knowledgeable — not only about the coffee they serve (which is absolutely top-notch) but also about the carefully curated selection of books that line the shelves.
One standout treat for me is their iced London Fog — smooth, fragrant, and just the right balance of comfort and refreshment. It’s the kind of drink that makes you pause and savor the moment.
What truly sets Sword & Shovel apart is the mission woven into everything they do. It’s a place that invites deep thinking, meaningful dialogue, and spiritual reflection — all while fostering a beautiful sense of community. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve come home.
Five stars aren’t enough. Sword & Shovel is not just a coffee shop or a bookstore — it’s an experience. One I’ll keep returning to, again and again.

Elijah is an excellent barista! The atmosphere of this place is great to either study or hang with friends.
The coffee is decent but the shop prohibits reading or flipping through the books unless you buy them. That’s their prerogative but the right to peruse books before buying them is a precedent so near and dear to my heart that I have to deduct a star. It’s just not a bookstore to me, but if that’s not a dealbreaker to you then by all means, have a good time there.

The coffee wasn’t good. Pastries were dry.
What I didn’t know before going in and later found out is that it’s owned by a Christian fundamentalist group who want to strip away women’s rights.
