I really love getting lunch and dinner from here when I’m busy! I always get the pineapple fried rice with tofu and no eggs as a vegan option. I’ve never had fried rice I’ve loved so much. One time, they didn’t have pineapple and a worker went out to get it for me which I appreciated very much. The atmosphere is very university town like and I enjoy it with friends too. I also like the curries a lot too. Best I’ve had at a restaurant. I don’t like the pad thai though but that’s just my personal preference.

Dietary restrictions: The curries and fried rice can be made vegan

While the place is a little hidden, and the atmosphere and look of the restaurant isn’t anything to brag about, the food is. This is by far the best Asian food I’ve ever had in the urbana-Champaign area, and by a long shot. There is so much flavor, quality ingredients, it just blows the competition away, I got the chicken fried rice and chicken pad tai on a 2 spiciness scale and it was soooooo good!!!!

I ordered the basil pork, the sauce was not very flavorful and the meat was dry and rubbery. If you order mild spiciness it will indeed be very mild, not thai mild. The curry had better flavor, I wish I’d ordered that. It was super crowded when we went so maybe try to avoid the rush.

the illini staple, home to extremely passionate folk who are able to concoct Thai cuisine that is both aromatic and intensely flavoured!! the tofu is prepared masterfully and the pad thai is crafted akin to the greatest of bangkok. As a bonus, they serve a rather funky take on mango sticky rice (I'll let you discover that one)

Wheelchair accessibility: unfortunately seems to be cordoned off by a flight of stairs without ramp

BEWARE and make sure to check your bank if you pay with card. The middle-aged Asian man that is always taking orders charged me THREE times. This man was immediately rude when taking my order and very dismissive. Incompetent. I saw him put my card into the reader three times. I questioned him when he did this, he completely dismissed me and ignored my question. I felt an immediate dishonest vibe from this man, so I checked my recent transactions and of course, this man charged me three times. When I asked him, he acted like he didn’t have a clue and then finally admitted and didn’t even apologize, the other workers did for him. Look at previous reviews warning of this same guy being dishonest. Will not be back at this establishment. I ignored the dirty atmosphere before, but this shady and disgusting act was the last straw.

Cashew chicken is unreal delicious — best I’ve ever had. I recommend paying a few more dollars for double chicken. Green curry is also superb.I grew up in Southeast Asia having alot of good Thai, and this place never disappoints. Food tastes really authentic and not over sweetened like many Thai restaurants in the U.S. tend to do. Have tried other Thai places in the area like “Sticky Rice” and it doesn’t even come close to here.

Update (4/2024): Visited again in 2023 after a few years away. I think ownership changed? But the food - still delicious and remains a favorite of mine when in town. And I still enjoy bringing friends/colleagues to eat here as well.(2019) Found this place in 2012 while colleague and I were looking for lunch away from a conference. Anything is great here...and every year at conference time it’s here we bring ourselves for lunch. Now, we’ve introduced dozens to this place and it is a tradition for conference attendees. The secret is the Lao touch.

Hands down best place to get a quick bite or for a filling meal. I always come here once or twice a day to get their Thai Iced Tea which is very affordable for any college student who’s craving a sweet (but not too sweet) drink. I also enjoy walking in and talking with the staff literally the highlight of my day :) I def recommend!
