We started with the beignets, and didn’t taste like beignets-tasted more like bread with powdered sugar. I would say that the fried chicken was very good and very tasty. The biscuit was not good. We tried to order orange juice and they had none- the only juice believe that they had that day was grapefruit juice. The service was good and our waiter kept checking in which was very nice.

Just delightful! Got in last minute for Mardi Gras. More than "just another Cajun place". Had wonderful smokey jambalaya, alligator and collards. Place was packed but one of the owners came by to apologize for sitting us on the counter by the door to the kitchen. Loved watching and smelling the food come together and told him. Really can't say enough about this place.

Just had the shrimp poboy, today .. had no shrimp flavor and a very boring sauce. I don't understand people who go into the restaurant business and serve stuff like this. $15 with mandatory tip. ?

The shrimp and grits were disappointing. Server was really moving but had too many tables. Tables too close together; hard to get to the other side. Liked the Mardi Gras

The Peacemaker was excellent. We liked the Sazerac cocktail too. Fun atmosphere for Mardi Gras.

[Big Jones] Chicago Restaurant Week Edition / Southern Creole/Cajun-inspired restaurant located in the Andersonville neighborhood in Chicago. Perfect day to post a review for this restaurant on Fat Tuesday. Came for their CRW Brunch menu. We were seated upon our reservation time and immediately received service. It was not too busy when we arrived but half-way in, the restaurant started to pick up. Now let's talk about the food. 1. Cornbread muffins for the table included pimiento cheese, butter, pickles, etc 2. Duck Fat Fried Chicken 3. Roasted Viridian Farms Mushrooms 4. Grillades & Grits 5. Bloody Mary 6. (Forgot to picture) Beignets and Gateaux de Sirop Everything was good. I really liked their cornbread, sweet and fluffy. The fried chicken was good but not the best that I have had. Although seasoned well, it was not as juicy inside and the outside was fried hard. I liked the bloody mary. Theirs was more peppery, which if you know me I love black pepper. The desserts were fine but I personally was not the biggest fan of their cane syrup cake. It was a bit too mushy for me. The price point was a deal. The service was amazing. The ambiance was lively. Overall, 6.5/10. 5347 N Clark St Chicago, IL 60640

My takeaway experiences from this spot have been consistently impressive. This establishment shines with its exceptional offerings. The two instances I've ordered, their dishes showcase a perfect balance of flavors and ingredients. From their rich and flavorful dishes to the overall quality, this place has become my reliable choice when seeking genuine southern comfort in the midst of Chicago's diverse culinary landscape.
I rarely find myself on the north side, but I'm glad I decided to try this place. The food was pretty good. Everything we ordered was delectable..I had high hope for the beignets, but nothing beats New Orleans. I'll definitely be back for dinner.

Really great food though portions are huge! The chefs new book about Midwestern Food is a great read. Try the pickle sampler!
Vegetarian options: We had a restaurant night price fixed menu and the vegetarian options were creative and delicious.

Ok... a lot to impact here. So here's the setup, me and the wife went for dinner. We picked the place based on location to The Vic theater and based upon a list of best chicken sandwiches in the area. Spoiler alert... they don't serve the chicken sandwich for dinner. Any who. I decided on the gumbo Yaya, I'll be brief, Hard pass. Now on to the main entree, I had the fried chicken, comes with greens and biscuit. The greens and biscuit were ok, just plain. The chicken however was on point. It had a very good crispy batter. The catfish by wife had also was nice and crispy. The red beans were tasty and sweet. The fish taste fresh. Overall it was a tasty dish. The Cornbread taste southern like my grandma use to make. Solid. It's not sweet though, if you prefer your Cornbread sweet something you might want to keep in mind. It has a butter on top that you can spread adds a little sweetness. Finally for dessert we had the rum bread pudding. Excellent. All portion sizes were on the small side imo. Only 2 pieces of chicken a side of greens and a biscuit was $17.50. Conclusion (currently) Would I go back? Yes, Gotta try the chicken sandwich. And the main chef has a biscuit sandwich that beat Bobby flay, so I gotta come back for brunch.

Our group of four included an invited international guest, and one in our party recommended Big Jones as one of his favorite restaurants in Andersonville. Cajun food with some spice sounded good to all of us, and was a fun idea for our guest. The food was generous and very delicious, and the presentation was nice. The atmosphere and decor is informal and fun, and is very comfortable. Despite the fact that there weren't many people in the restaurant (about 1/4 full on a Monday evening) our waiter Blake finally came to our table after 10 minutes of our being seated to finally take our drink orders, and a few minutes later returned to take our food orders. An additional twenty minutes passed and I gave Blake a look of absolute desperation, and only then did our drinks arrive suddenly a minute later, followed by our food orders within two minutes of our drinks finally arriving. Our waiter were never asked if we needed additional drinks. We might have ordered dessert or after-dinner drinks, but not from this waiter who couldn't have cared less, and it would have taken all night. Our otherwise nice dinner was memorably marred by this completely disinterested waiter.
