Deserves a higher rating! Great atmosphere and fun food. Love going for brunch or dinner.
Had a reservation made almost a weekIn advance and I requested to be inside as well dueTo the insane presence of bees in the patio. Once I got there, we were forced to sit outside and they mentioned they were not holding tables for reservation so the rest of our party had to come quickly. They were only 10 minutes late to the reservation. A table should be held and respected for the reservation and it made no sense for the manager to just give away our reservation like that... The manager also seemed extremely rude to the wait staff and it was hard to watch. They are also very short staffed. Also got stung by a bee for sitting in the patio, would not recommend.
Really good Mexican food and margaritas! We had a pitcher of Mango house margarita and also had a coconut pineapple margarita, both were really good. The chips that they give are different than most Mexican restaurant but they were great. Carne asada was cooked to perfection. No more table side guacamole, totally understandable but they should inform you when you order that. Service was still great by every staff member.
Texan review. Arrived Saturday afternoon and had a 30 minute wait, were not allowed to purchase drinks at the bar while we waited for our table, but hostess was professional. We given Chips and a very small sauce bowl to share among 4 people, we requested two more salsa bowls and eventually was brought to us. Ordered House margaritas which were very good at a decent price. Higher end cocktails were even better, but cost more. Shrimp Empanadas were very good (appetizer). Entree was Chicken Salsa (tender chicken breast with mole sauce was good, rice and beans were nothing remarkable. Atmosphere was good and staff was professional.
The food, service, and staff are great. However, management needs to do something about the bothersome presence of bees in the outside back patio. With them flying all over the place, it ruins the dining experience. Our waitress did try her best to help by placing a repellent at our table, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. While everyone has a different threshold for what's safe during these uncertain times, I recommend to anyone that goes to this restaurant to try to get seated indoors.
Their special tequila event was intimate, amazing and delicious! Thank you Tony, Luis and the entire awesome team that made it happen!
We got seated immediately and the staff was very attentive despite being early for our reservation. I'm going to give them some slack because it was a Saturday night; however, the service was great but slow. We waited half an hour for the flan dessert and the manager told me that he made it for us "fresh". LOL. I have a culinary background and I know that flan has to be refrigerated for hours. His bad for trying to cover up, but it was worth the wait -- probably the best I ever had. I ordered the quesadilla and it was average at best and the salmon dish was perfectly cooked. Overall, we were marginally satisfied; however, there are two take-aways here. First, the service was great at the beginning and then became indifferent. The second is don't order the premium margarita. It's very tart and mostly ice and very little cocktail for $11. I can make better at home for a lot less money.
With take-out dining, service on the phone and getting the order right are just as important as the food. On that score El Mariachi rates high. The woman taking the order was very friendly. She repeated the order twice and all the food I received was just what I ordered -- nothing was missing. There were two bags of chips, guacamole, salsa, chili rellenos, lemon rice and black beans. This was the last restaurant I ate in before the lock-down and the first place I ordered take-out from. I'm glad this neighborhood favorite is still around and operating full steam. I'll be back many times.
The mole enchiladas are excellent. We were able to stay socially distanced from others dining in. The service was a bit inattentive on the Wednesday we were there.
Their chilaquiles were bomb! If you want the sauce to be spicy, then choose ranchera sauce. The brunch deal is the best with bottomless mimosas and an entree. However, our water was never filled. They would take more than 5 minutes to refill your mimosas. I timed it every time. We were seated outside in the sun majority of the time until we were finally offered an umbrella once we were about to leave. Overall, the restaurant is a good "authentic" Mexican restaurant but the service thoughhhhh. ALSO, hard to find parking!!
My girlfriend at the time and I were looking to move, and we found an apartment nearby that seemed pretty good. We stopped into El Mariachi to have a bite to eat and discuss the place. We got the tableside guacamole and a pair of premium margaritas. It was *so* good. The proximity to those life-changing margaritas was the deciding factor as to whether or not to rent the apartment. Two years later, we were still living there and were engaged. We were looking at wedding venues and they were outright too expensive. My wife reached out to the restaurant and discovered they had a large, private party room across the back patio. It was a separate building, which was a nice touch. We ended up having our wedding at El Mariachi. We worked with Luis to get the food and drink packages together. He helped us out with everything. We talked about food pairings, what alcohol to have on hand, to how we can seat everyone across the different rooms. They opened early so we could decorate the party rooms, and they were able to help out with the sound problems we ran into on the day of. He also had us try some different margaritas, desserts, foods, and really took care of us. El Mariachi really treated us like family, only better.Of course, we've been back several times since. Once COVID hit we were able to order food for pickup or delivery and scratch that margarita itch as well. We've been back only once since moving away and it was great getting to talk and catch up a bit with Luis. They are amazing people that make fantastic drinks and delectable food. We'll be back there again soon.I highly recommend you stop in for "just a drink" and try their food.
Great spot in Uptown/Boystown/Lake View area for Bottomless mimosas and Mexican. Salsita is delish and staff are kind. Come here!
Great environment and the happy hour with bottomless mimosas will always keep me coming back. Food is good, service was great. The chairs on the outside was not comfortable but you will adjust after a few drinks. Bathrooms are small so at times you have to wait in line. Overall I like this place. Will come back for the happy hour.
The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Lots of choices and they're very accommodating. The back patio is amazing.
Our brunch experience at el Mariachi was heightened primarily because of Nadia’s amazing service. Both the mimosas and conversation were flowing and I come back because of her. Keep up the amazing work ?
