Always a great experience when they have live music on the weekend. A really unique venue as well with excellent bartenders and service

Unsanitary place, terrible atmosphere and particularly unpleasant barmaid! A mouse was walking behind the bar (see photos) and upon mentioning it to the barmaid, she replied "it's a fun part of my day". There was no background music (NONE) and when I asked for a sidecar, like Al Capone, she said they don't do sidecars. My boyfriend asked if they had a signature drink and was told "drink whatever you want, I don't care". We drank our drink in silence and ran away... like the mouse ??

We had a truly unforgettable experience at the Green Mill. Incredible jazz (we saw the Orrin Evans Trio) and a beautiful atmosphere at a one-of-a-kind historic location. Bring cash, be respectful and enjoy the music and you'll have a great time.

The Green mill is a sophisticated jazz cocktail bar offering a melodic fusion of live music and expertly crafted drinks. With a sultry ambiance and talented musicians, it's the perfect spot for a night out. The $20 cover charge ensures an intimate setting and guarantees an unforgettable evening of rhythm and libations.

This is such a terrible establishment with rude staff, rude management. Everyone is just impolite and disrespectful. If you want to listen to great jazz music there are many other places in Chicago. So sad such a well known place has such a terrible reputation. Don't waste your money unless you want to be treated like garbage. I have been going here since many times and always disappointed. I am not going back there ever again.

Not sure if it was me and my friend who only experienced this but we were so invisible to the waiters especially.. call in for service for over 20 min nothing no one was interested in serving us every one claimed they are a band and not working there . But all waiters were serving all other customers besides us , perhaps it was because of our skin colour but I’ve never felt so unlawful treated as I was .

Worst manager ever. Extremely RUDE and AGGRESSIVE to myself and my friends. He completely ruined our mood tonight. He jumped out of nowhere (no one could tell he was a manager) and YELLED to us when we tried to move folded chairs by ourselves (since we didn’t see any waiters or waitresses). We were shocked. We have never been treated like this.

Immediately got off on the wrong foot with the uninspired rude bartenders and never recovered. They couldn’t make me a mojito because they don’t carry mint leaves, which is surprising for a place with “cocktail lounge” written in neon on the sign, but no problem, I get that a lot when I try to order a mojito. Ok. Do you have a drink menu? No. What do you recommend? An old fashioned. Every interaction with the bartenders was terse and unfriendly, same with the others in my party. The drinks were meh. This business is coasting on its historic status and does not make any effort to delight its customers. I’d go elsewhere.

Music was good but the staff have annoying pretentious energy. Has the vibe of a old time bar but can't make basic cocktails.

If you like history and jazz bars, this has to be on your list of must-visit places in Chicago. It has been around for more than 115 years, and walking in to the Green Mill feels like time traveling. During the Prohibition Era the Green Mill was partially owned by Jack “Machine Gun” McGurn...meaning the bar was under the control of Al Capone, who was McGurn's crime boss. More than ten movies have had the Green Mill features in it. Today jazz is still alive and well as though it were the 1920s. The drinks are good. The staff is friendly. You'll enjoy it. I promise.
