Food was of pretty poor quality, especially for the price I'm afraid. I sent a chicken sandwich back because it was dreadfully salty. And what I got in its place wasn't much better. Service wasn't terrible and the ambiance was fairly pleasant after the lunch rush, but I wouldn't return anytime soon. Even the beer was sort of flat.
My wife and I visited the Tavern twice during our stay in the DeSoto House: once for drinks, once for lunch. We enjoyed it both times. It's a casual, pleasant, old-fashioned place. The food was good, especially a small loaf of bread they served before the meal. They also make good mixed drinks. During one visit, though, our waiter was out on break for quite a while and left us without service. A quick drop-in visit became a more extended stay against our will. But on the whole, it's a good place.
Star ratings. 1 bad. 2 below average. 3 average / neutral. 4 good. 5 excellent.Stopped in for a drink and small bites to wrap up the night. Had the crab cakes and shrimp. Both were great. The bacon wrapped shrimp was crisp throughout. Sweet tangy BBQ dipping sauce. Tasty but not overpowering sauce for the crab cakes. Would of liked the cakes to be more crispy
This is the main level restaurant in the DeSoto hotel and was recommended for a quick bite when many other restaurants were closed on a Monday night. Did not disappoint! Speedy and friendly service. We shared a few appetizers and an entree and everything we ordered was great. Cheese curds were SO good! A really cool, historic pub to grab a meal while in Galena!
We were in Galena and staying at the Desoto, We ended up eating here for 2 nights at the Green Street Tavern, most restaurants were closed Monday & Tuesday! What a good decision that was! We had been here before, and enjoyed it. But this time it was more than excellent. Last night Bonnie served us drinks and dinner at the bar... food was super, service even better, my wife had the cheese Tortellini in white sauce, in fact had it tonight again as well. SUPER! I had the pretzel crusted walleye last night and a steak tonight, and Ken served us at the bar. Both Bonnie & Ken were very very fun, courteous and great bartenders! It is sometimes hard to get a good "Old Fashion" drink, made just how I like them... both Bonnie and Ken made great drinks. I would definitely say if in Galena, stop by the Tavern for drinks or food! You can't go wrong!
The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. I had the strawberry salad with chicken and raspberry vinaigrette. It was filled with berries, walnuts, and apples. It was a refreshing salad on a very hot day.
The food was very good. Had a great variety. Friendly staff. I took off a star because the beer was warm and the mug was only 3/4 full. I would come back for the food.
Absolutely delicious food! Amazing staff. Well priced. The restaurant itself is beautiful!
My family and I had the pleasure to dine at this delicious establishment. Everyone was friendly and our waiter Landon was simply awesome. His customer service skills and attention to details were top notched. Landon helped us all with food recommendations and relatable conversations. Upon being seated I mentioned my mom birthday. Before leaving, without asking, Landon surprised my mom with a birthday dessert. Green Street Tavern is a must to visit while here in Galena, IL
Our group had the opportunity to enjoy several meals here, and no one was ever disappointed! Good variety of choices, all tasty and presented well. Friendly wait staff.
In Galena with friends for a couple’s weekend getaway and we stopped in for a quick bite while we waited for a rainstorm to pass. Landon was our server & he did a great job of keeping his cool in spite of the madness of an instant full house! The staff worked together to make sure everyone was well taken care of & made our visit enjoyable through the chaos. We had the haystacks, cheese curds (amazing) and nachos - which were all great and our drinks were kept full. Would definitely recommend and plan to return for our next visit to Galena.
Stopped by here for a quick lunch at the bar. It was fairly busy but service was still fast and efficient. The club wrap was very good. The atmosphere was a little underwhelming and seemed a bit on the unorganized side.
We had a party of eight and we saw that they had availability so we stopped in. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot seeing this was a hotel restaurant. We had lunch and we all very much enjoyed our meals. It surpassed all of our expectations and I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Great customer service, and a ridiculously delicious spinach salad! Rack of ribs was good, very tender.
Had dinner here on a Friday night. My friend and I both had the fried cod, which was delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, tender and flaky. The coating was crisp and flavorful without being greasy. The small cup of coleslaw that comes with the fish was decent, nothing outstanding. You can choose a potato side, but the choices were basically limited to fries, sweet potato fries and potato salad. We were surprised you couldn't choose mashed potatoes or a baked potato. I chose the potato salad and it had too much mayo and the potatoes (red potato slices) were still crunchy. Needless to say, I only took a couple of bites. My friend had the sweet potato fries and she said those were good.Service was average.
