There are many excellent wines and wineries along the Shawnee Wine Trail. Hickory Ridge in Pomona is a favorite! We bought a mixed case of wines because it was too hard to choose just one! Thank-you to the owner who guided us through the tastings of their varietal selections.

Horrible. Asked the woman 3 times how much it was for a tasting and she never would answer. We left and next stop we made were informed she’d called all wineries on the trail to say two girls skipped out on their tab. I was mortified. It was $6. I ended up giving her $10 and told her we would not be back!!!!

Hickory Ridge Vineyard and Winery is located on the Illinois Shawnee and has one of the best views from a patio. This patio has beautiful Wisteria growing all throughout it which makes it very inviting to sit and enjoy a drink. The inside space is very very small and with the couch made it seem like someone might be living there. It looks like there might have been a bunk upstairs as a nearby ladder implied. The tastings were very sparing which was disappointing. This was in comparison to other tastings offered on the trail. This was a turn off and we did not purchase any bottles. The host was nice, as was the friendly dog that was on site. I just felt like the wine I did not have to take home. The decor inside seemed like it was a menagerie of stuff that had been collected from the owners worldy travels. It didn't really fit into the space because it wasn't related to wine or wine making. Would I stop again? Sure. Would I not stop again? Sure.

Without question one of the two most interesting and bespoke wineries in southern Illinois. Sylvia and Ron have created quite a gem here, from unimproved land just 40 years ago. They produce some of the highest quality, boutique product on the trail, their Hankie's Trail Rose being perhaps one of my all time favorite wines regardless of region. Breathtaking setting, relaxed vibes, and plenty of area to roam around make this an incredible place to spend an hour or a day.

A very calm and relaxing atmosphere with nice views. Wine flights were an affordable and fun way to taste several wines. Our sommeliers were very knowledgeable, kind and friendly! Our favorite wine was the Norton.

Anonymos Tips
During a visit here last summer, I ordered their Sangria, which appeared to be stored somewhere behind the checkout counter. The owners apparently have their large dog to move around freely and unleashed in the same area. The Sangria contained hair (probably shed from the dog), which the lady at the counter promptly offered to have replaced and apologized. However, the replacement also had the same issue. Although not intentional, this is not an experience I was expecting to have at a well-reputed winery and diminishes my confidence is visiting the next time.

This is THE winery on the Shawnee wine trail for dry wines. Great flavor profiles and good complexity. This place is also a hidden gem. No commercials vibes. Tucked away with great views, setup invites you to lounge, saw a picnic welcome sign. Will definitely come back to drink and picnic here.
