We love Mateys! Great atmosphere and really fun menu. They have a drink called the bucket which is served in... a small bucket lolIt's best in the summer as it is about 2 min to the beach and 4 min to the casino so a perfect midway stop between either entertainment choice!

Had a terrible experience at fiddlerhead (whatever its called) and came here instead. Service was excellent! Food was amazing. It was off season but during peak times I'm quite sure this is the place to go! A few miles away from the park it was a perfect stop to an already stressful day.I am not really a fan of coconut but the coconut shrimp was fantastic! I also got a 4 piece of original batter shrimp and that was even better.The fries were hot, crispy and cooked in the right amount of time. They didn't have old oil and the taste was light and had the perfect crunch.My bf got a burger and that too was seasoned well, cooked perfectly.The margarita? Wow.You won't be disappointed coming here. My server was... Scott I believe? He's from Houston and actually from the same area as my bf! Who would have thought meeting someone from home that far from home?All in all great experience and I'm glad we ended up here!

Such a fun place! Decorated to the max for Christmas and decorated more than any place we've seen. Steve, the bartender was excellent; one of the friendliest people wave come across on our travels. We had boneless wings(the sauce was good and it was a generous portion), the fries (delicious fresh cut humongous portion), and the California flatbread (fresh, tasty, and a good size). As a treat, we got a holiday martini flight and it was such fun! For a laid back bar vibe, this place was a find!

Decided to eat somewhere different, we were in Michigan City husband wanted SwingBellys I suggested we try Matey's. Walk in we are 1 of 3 tables, one already had their food. Husband ordered shrimp, few minutes waiter tells us chef forgot to pass on they were out of shrimp..Husband orders a grilled chicken breast and me chicken flatbread, we waited an hour and threw a $5 on the table for the ice tea and drove to Swing Bellys. Waiter was pleasant at one point and apologized for the wait, he said the chef messed up the only other tables order. Lesson learned
