I had the best time at Carmela’s until I got the bill. I asked Carson, the bartender to pour me a couple samples. I was talking to another customer at the bar about how much I love Montepulciano and the bartender assumed that is what I wanted and poured me the glass. Fortunately that is in fact, what I wanted so I was fine with it. It was a reasonable pour so I drank it with dinner. When I went to check out, there was 2 glasses of wine on my bill. I asked him kindly if he was sure it was 2. He said yes, which I was shocked by. I was sure he had just made an easily correctable mistake. I told him I would pay for it anyway but I really did just have the one glass. He said “you definitely had 2 but I’ll take it off”. Then he came back and said, “there’s nothing I can do about it because the card has already been charged.” I told him that it was fine, it’s only $15 it’s just the precedence for me. He then informed me again he was sure I had 2 glasses. Needless to say ,I was incredibly embarrassed in front of the new friends I had made at the bar. I paid my tab and then cried in my car because it has been that kind of week. The worst part about the whole thing was not being believed. I will not be returning to Carmela’s which is shame because I really liked the wine list.Edit: The owners truly listened and did their best to make it right. I will be returning.

We were headed to ND for the final home game and ate beforehand. Dinner was delicious. Three of us had lobster ravioli with grilled shrimp. I had eggplant Parmesan with spaghetti. All awesome! Desserts?? TO DIE FOR! The chocolate bomb is singularity impressive. And the Amaretto tiramisu is scary good. Our server was prompt and friendly. She made sure our drinks were full and we made it to the game on time. Carmela's NEVER disappoints. We look forward to our next visit?

The food is always great here !! Our server Lisa was outstanding. Even though she was busy serving other tables, she was very attentive, never acted like she was rushed / in a hurry and made our evening more enjoyable with her positive attitude. Have dined here many times and always leave feeling like we got more than we paid for. Great night out !!

Carmela's has been a family favorite for years! We tend to go when celebrating special occasions and the staff never disappoints in making everything very nice. While they are embarking on a needed renovation of equipment and the space in the deli and bakery area, they are still open and serving great food and drinks. Definitely worth your time to support Macri's and Carmela's!

Yes, yes, yes. Everything we ate/drank was 5 stars and I would order everything we had a second time. It was a birthday dinner so we went all out. Started off with a solid dirty martini. The oils and fresh herbs is a nice touch. For starters, the Barata and the Calamari. Drooling cause I want these again! Yes, yes, yes! Our main dishes, both pasta dishes and fantastic; carbonara for the Mr. And he said it was the best one he's had, I love love manicotti, and it did not disappoint, ate the entire dish! And for desert, espresso martini, tiramisu and this chocolate covered gelato bomba something, and this was the bomb!!

The veal dishes are excellent and priced well compared to other restaurants. Servers are always efficient and friendly. We never hesitate to recommend Carmela's to friends and visitors to South Bend.

Had there Valentines day special. It was okay the see food was all over cooked scallops, shrimp and calamari. Not sure if we will be going back for what you pay I thought the food would be way better. We went there two years ago and it was better then. I think the deserts were the best part of the meal.
Carmella's is a local favorite for us. We had a memorial service today and we got a large group in at the last minute they accommodated us above and beyond. The level of service the quality of the food everything was fabulous!

Seasonings were perfect in food. Perch was tasty and fresh. Chicken Marsala tender and vegetable cooked perfectly.. not mushy. Service very attentive and friendly. The stuffed chicken dish was excellent! Always a pleasure to dine at Carmela's.

This was our first visit to Carmela's. The flavors were so deep, everything was excellent. Very good quality. The sauces were not watery as found in other Italian restaurants. Our server was helpful. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
