We grew up with strouds. My mom actually worked there when she was pregnant with my older sister 40 years ago. We have been loyal customers since. Obviously, with the previous owners no longer with us we expected things to change but this location has altered the taste and certainly the quality. If you are just looking for decent fried chicken It is hit or miss on If it's an option. But if you are looking for CLASSIC STROUDS taste or quality, make the drive to another location. This is not it.The gravy is runny and overloaded with pepper. The cotrage fries are seasoned with a new mix and are so overly peppery they are too spicy for kids. The mashed potatoes tasted like they are just literally potatoes smashed with no seasoning, butter or other ingredients. We ordered cottage fries (NOT CRISPY-They have two options listed crispy or not for convenience on the web ordering) we got hard chips like they had fried them so long the potato had fried out and were peppery. We go back. They give an immediate attitude but agree to give replacement since we did NOT even order crispy. So we get half cooked still raw cottage fries mixed with hard chips. (Picture included)Not only is the taste off the service and quality is off too.Ps other side note they literally give one cinnamon bun per meal. Not the usual bag for per meal you would get at other locations.
Well, the king is dead. I’m constantly amazed at how people can kill a great restaurant brand. Strouds had lines of people waiting to taste what was a great meal. Chicken is small, dry and cold. Notice that the leg is about the size of the cucumber slice? One small dried out cinnamon roll for a full dinner? While waiting I browsed a binder they have with the history of Strouds. When they brought my order out a guy took it out and opened all the containers proudly showing me that they had gotten my order correct. Why would you open my food and poke at it? Sorry to rant but I’m just sad that a KC original has gone the way of the dinosaur.
Terrible food. Overcooked room temp chicken. All the sides were also room temp. This is just cafeteria food. Nothing special. Actually, I've had much better cafeteria food than Shroud's. I wish I would've saved the $50 I spent in two lousy, overpriced meals and bought $5 frozen meals. They have more flavor and a similar quality. The service is slow, confused, and lacks charm.
Spent $40 on takeout. Took a bite of the gizzards and spit it out. Chicken legs were dry. Onion rings are NOT worth $9. Green beans, mashed potatoes, onion rings, gravy all had so much pepper - uneatable. Cinnamon rolls are just dinner rolls with cinnamon glaze and the rolls were stale. Total waste of money!
This is the biggest joke of a restaurant I have ever gotten food from. Since the original family sold strouds to the KC hoops company it is not even close to the same quality. I have carried out food from her 3 time. Had to take the food back and demand a refund twice. I will never get food from here again. If I didn’t have a job I would spend my days sitting outside with a sign telling people how bad the food was Don’t give them your business
Ordering on line was easy, food was ready on time. Salad and cinnamon rolls were excellent but nothing in between. Mashed potoes were extremely stiff with no flavor, gravy had a very weird taste, it tasted like vinegar. Breast were good, legs and thighs were extremely tough. I will never order from there again. It's worth the drive to go to the original Strouds off of 1-35 and Vivion Rd. They never disappoint...
Wow, what was once a KC institution is going corporate and lowering the quality. My chicken fried steak was a third of what it used to be and the gravy appeared to have been waterred down. I guess I'll have to go back up north to get the real deal.
Ordered tonight on the Toast app. They ran out of gravy and also didn’t send 1 of the salads, and didn’t send salad dressing. I called to let them know and the manager said to contact Door Dash. I ordered through the Toast app so DoorDash has no record of the order. Very frustrating experience.
My wife stopped in for a Togo order, service was 10/10 with friendly helpful staff, but gizzard meal was missing the fryings...they were all 95%bare....strange compared to the north location. Salads may have been made a few days earlier as the lettuce under the cucumber was brown and mushy. Other than that was a good meal, will be back with hope for a better outcome next time.
One of the best fried chicken in town! We love to do take out fried chicken dinner meal for family dinner! Their fried chicken is very crispy on the outside but juicy inside. The mash potato with gravy is great! Please note that this branch only do take out. To place an order is super easy online! There is plenty of parking space in the front store! If you decide to eat there, there are seating area in front of the store.

Really good chicken. Good portions. But oh my have they lost their minds about customer experience/service. They won’t take orders by phone or in person. It took me 10 minutes to order online because the manager refused to take an order on the phone. When I got to the location to pick up my food, an elderly couple was standing around with nobody helping them. So I went into the kitchen to get someone (manager) for them. When they were told that they HAD to order on their phones, The husband said “no we don’t“ and walked out of the location. I doubt that couple will ever return to Strouds, and no telling how long they have been loyal customers up until this point.Ownership of this local brand had better reconsider their customer experience/customer service approach, because it is trash.
Disappointed to say the least. This wasn't my first visit but may be the last. A couple of previous visits we noticed a decline in quality and this time it was really not good. The wings were fine and the staff was ok but the breasts were dry, cold and tasteless, the mashed potatoes were cold and lacking in flavor, the gravy was like brown jelly, cold with little flavor and the cinnamon rolls were so far below par it's indescribable. The wings and employees are the only reason it got two stars however there was a man who came in after us to order and walked out with his food fifteen minutes before we received ours. Totally unacceptable.
The fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy were great but the “cinnamon rolls” were NOT what you get at Stroud’s Oak Ridge Manor! They are traditional dinner rolls with cinnamon/sugar poured over them?! Disappointing.
Strouds was always a family diner where everyone could eat until full. Not any more. Picked up food and the sides of potatoes, gravy and green beans were very small single serve containers. $24 dollars for one meal and not a leftover in sight. Use to love getting food and having a few leftovers but no more. I think Gus’s Chicken may now be my go to.
We have been Strouds fans since 1970s the Original location on 85th & Troost as a couple, Oak Ridge Manor for family meals, then Roeland Park location for convenient family carry out. 2 out of 3 closed. SO, when Express opened we were wary. We decided to try. STROUDS is back. Flavor and crispness we remember from Original. We ordered All Dark: 4 pieces (2 legs, 2 thighs), mashed potatoes, beans, salad, and of course legendary cinnamon roll. Perfect pick for 2 We ate it before we could phototag for review. The young man who reviewed our order (hand in cast) was so friendly and is a perfect representative of Strouds. He reminded us of how you were treated at Original. Thank you
