We were in a parking lot coming back from climbing and one of the owners kindly handed us a loaf of freshly baked focaccia- it was amazing! So flavorful and fluffy! We’ll definitely check this place out next time we’re in Lexington.

I keep watching for any sign of Sunrise opening again to the public... ??? Yes, I can buy their breads from Wilson's or Good Food Co-op and do faithfully. BUT I miss the sandwiches and exquisite cookies and pastries so very much... I miss the fun shop, the staff, the entire experience that was uniquely Sunrise. Please please come back to all of us who miss you Sunrise Bakery!! The pandemic is over, the world is awakening-please let the Sunrise shine on Lexington once more!

Please learn how to bake bread properly and control your dough. I am restricted to eating only sourdough bread. I get sliced sourdough bread from Sunrise via Good Foods Coop. Sliced as in meant to make sandwiches. But who can make a sandwich on bread that is 50% large holes? If I have time I'll go to a different bakery whose sliced sourdough bread makes great sandwiches with no large holes but I don't always have time to drive to a bakery for bread. I called Sunrise a couple months ago and left a msg about their holey bread and so far no changes, hence this review. I have read that there are ways to control these holes and other baker also explained to me how to do it. If you're selling sliced bread expect that people are usually planning to make sandwiches on it so give them the opportunity to do so. Thank you.

The bakery is lovely - the food and location is great. But the family is the worst part. It is not that the owners are not nice, as they are, but their son is terrible. They obviously did not raise him right and did not teach him consent. Get your son under control before anything happens.

My only negative about Sunrise is that it isn’t open all the time! Everything is wonderful here. My personal favorites are the cinnamon rolls and the prosciutto roll ups. Definitely my favorite breakfast place!
BIPPITY, BOPPITY BOOP BAKERY MAGIC! The Sunrise Bakery in LEX is tucked between two Libations Joints. It is humble, charming and feels Old World. The shop appears to do a land office business in the morning with a stream of people in and out for several hours. At the end of the day, my experience, there are few offerings left, and what isn’t sold just before closing is left outside for the homeless. (This is an assumption on my part, since I noted the bread bags sitting outside the shop after closing time on a couple of occasions). Bakery hours are important, because if you crave a mid-afternoon treat, you’ll need to make your choices before the shop closes. Sunrise Bakery is closed Sunday - Wednesday, Open Thursday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Okay! So I invested in their homemade chocolate sandwich cookie - 20x better than any commercial chocolate sandwich cookie I’ve ever had, with a luscious not overly sweet filling and a deep, dark chocolate cookie; a filled shortbread cookie which featured a raspberry filling and a very light and tangy raspberry royal icing; and last, an almond danish. I’m a baker myself and I know YUM and these items were all YUM YUM. My waistline needs to leave Kentucky ASAP.... In all seriousness, this is a nice place, run by nice people and I hope you will support it while you are in town. For those less sweet-toothed than I, the Sunrise Bakery has a number of savory offerings, as well as sandwiches.

Like the bread and pastries but would be nice if they were labeled so you don't have to ask what items are. Somewhat pricey.
