Wonderful food, great staff and neat location! Show up during happy hour and sit in the bar-- meet new people and try something new. The mussels are fantastic.Vegetarian options: Vegan queso and vegan chorizo, lots of great options.

I visited this gem for the first time in several years this evening and it was just as good as before. This is the type of Mexican place with giant portions, hot tortilla chips, and an eclectic southwest vibe. They are also one of the few places around here that I've found that reminds me of New Mexican Mexican food -- especially green chilies.Specific to this evening: they were absolutely packed and short on servers, but the service was still prompt and friendly, and the food was delicious and great for the price (especially with daily specials -- can't beat a $5 marg and a giant $9 burrito!). I also want to give a special shout out to tonight's hostess and the bartender/food runner for the bar in the back for making everything a smooth and enjoyable experience. We already can't wait to return!Vegetarian options: I haven't tried any, but I noticed that there were several options on the menu specifically for those that don't eat meat.Parking: They have a lot in the back that provides easy parking in non-peak times; however, you are more likely to only have street parking available during the dinner rush.

All the food was brown and tasted the same. From the beans the the enchilada. I ordered chili rellenos and I couldn't even eat most of it. It was deep fried and an attempt at being breaded. I picked out the chicken and realized the chili wasn't even stuffed. It was just laid on top of the chicken. Awful. I'll never eat here again. The beans were dry and so was the rice like it's been sitting g out for hours. I ordered the cheesecake to go and it was inedible. Tasted like the inside of a refrigerator. Totally nasty. Go to Bakersfield for real Mexican. Not this slop. Don't waste your money. The service was decent but slow. Apparently short handed like everyone else.

The audacity to "kick out" a table because of a reservation that was coming. We had spent a few hundred dollars to spend less than 45 minutes at a table. We won't be back. Don't even worry about it. Get the money somewhere else.

So, first off, my rating is based solely on the fact that I received the wrong food twice. I'm not sure how a restaurant accomplishes that exactly, but perhaps they're just exceptional.Otherwise the restaurant was fine: the ambiance is great, service seemed good at the table, margarita was tasty, and everyone else in my party seemed to enjoy their food.I ordered southwestern enchiladas withchicken. I received bison instead. I ate a bit, but thought it tasted off (dim lighting and bad eyesight) but finally realized it wasn't what I ordered/wanted so I asked my waitress about it and she identified it as bison. Everyone else was mostly through with their meal, so I asked her to pack CHICKEN enchiladas to go for me and I would have lunch the next day. I guess I should have checked the meal before I left, but I've honestly not heard of a kitchen messing up the same order twice. Also I think I assumed the waitress would have checked?I opened the bag up today and was very skeptical at the lid, which was clearly labeled "SWE B." Label was accurate: no chicken enchiladas. More bison enchiladas. Very disappointing! To add insult to injury, they also removed the beans, which are the best side!Overall I'm irritated because I paid for a meal I didn't get to enjoy, and I don't trust them to make food accurately in the future. This is a real issue when you have people with allergies and dietary restrictions. Is the kitchen actually capable of producing chicken enchiladas? We'll never know!Dietary restrictions: Check your food carefully for accuracy!

Best house margaritas in town and Mexican favorites prepared with care. Try the Chipotle hit sauce. It's not the same wonderful atmosphere as the former Frankfort Ave location (please come back!) But it is a nice, multi level interior.

This place was a pleasant surprise. They have vegan spicy queso and chips and probably the best vegan chorizo I've ever had. They've recently added several vegan brunch items to the menu like huevos ranchero, chilaquiles, and Mexican poutine. Most of their regular menu items can be made vegan. I would definitely recommend this place! **this was for the Highlands location, the Frankfort location is closed** Updated from previous review on 2024-01-25

I’ve been here multiple times and I can confidently say El Mundo is consistent. The food, service and cocktails are always phenomenal. I know it’s a little more pricey than your average Mexican restaurant but a lot of the meats are sourced locally and you can really taste the difference. I will keep coming back.

Our service was really great. They do charge for chips and salsa. So, if you're like me and enjoy a lil salsa with your queso or queso with your salsa be prepared to pay for both. But each comes with a basket of chips and the Queso was good. I was not fond of the Steak "Fajitas" . Which was a small pile of undercooked strips of steak on a plate with a big helping of leafy lettuce, a tablespoon of chopped tomatoes & onions, tablespoon of shredded cheese, beans, rice, & 2 hard/grill marked tortillas. All of that was on 1 plate. The beans and lettuce being the main attraction. I was confused at 1st since I didn't order a salad with a side of beans & nothing on the plate was even hot/warm (temperature). The spoonful of shredded cheese that was between the beans & spoonful of rice didn't even begin to come close to melt. Then I started looking at the smaller piles & found the steak. Although, they made sure there wasn't an empty spot on that plate.Parking: There's a lot across the street that had free parking. However, it's not designated to that restaurant so it was full when we were trying to find parking. So, we found a spot on the street.Wheelchair accessibility: This place has stairs going up to their small dining area. I didn't see an elevator but that doesn't mean there isn't. I know if you have any walking issues you might want to call and check.
