I'm a VA employee AND patient. I have private medical insurance and choose to go to the VAMC for my medical care. I wouldn't do that if it were as bad as people say. It is more bureaucratic and some of the employees seem more apathetic than you'd find at a private hospital. But I also know that the leadership and majority of employees care a great deal for veterans. And the VA is especially equipped for military-related disabilities and conditions. I work with a lot of VAs across the country and this one is probably one of the worse. Requested records for a Client several months ago they said they completed the request a month ago. I said well I haven't gotten them yet. Then they fabricated some excuse that the mail room was down for 2 weeks. I don't know how a facility can even think that that is acceptable. Horrible pharmacy. I've lost count of how many times they have refused to send my prescriptions after I ordered them. They're not even narcotic prescriptions. Actually, I had to pitch a fit to NOT get narcotic prescriptions because I am a recovering addict. They tried to force opioids on my 3 times regarding my surgery and I had to threaten to not have the surgery if they couldn't give me 800 mg ibuprofen instead of opioids.
