Friendly staff and good food. Dine in or takeout. I usually stop in for takeout once a week or so. Food is always consistent. Located downtown on Central St. past couple years they've had outdoor curb side seating with propane heaters if that's your thing.

We had a lovely meal. Warm and comfortable spot in the center of town. The food was tasty and generous, and the service was friendly and helpful. I'd definitely go back.

Burger and sweet potato fries were so good! Also don't skip dessert! Both the keylime pie and chocolate mousse pie were beyond delicious!!!! Our server was friendly and accommodating! We will be back!

The chili tastes like someone just opened a container of salt over it and poured it in. The server said she'd bring me another water. Nope. She never visited our table again. Not even after I pushed the bowl of chili away after a few bites and stopped eating it. She did comp the chili, but had she brought back water as promised I would have had the chance to send the chili back and order something else. Looks like the business model is: ignore the customer and lose profits on poor service.

Have frequented multiple times. The staff are PHENOMENAL, and the food great pub grub. Highly recommend!!!Parking: Park around the back at the lot that serves the town. Wide open!

We went to the Brown Dog for lunch as we were passing through and wanted some seafood. It was pretty empty close to noontime. We were greeted by a bartender who immediately had an attitude. She was on her phone and we waited while she finished. We both ordered the fish and chips and a few other customers came in. We were brought our lunch and I noticed right away that the breading on the fish was thick and gooey inside. When the wait person came back I showed her my fish. She indignantly responded that "it's European fish and chips which is different from American. It says it on the menu so that's what it is". I said ok but checked the menu on my phone. Wrong. The menu just stated beer battered fish and chips. I told her that when she came back. Again more attitude and she said that people love the fish. We didn't. When she brought the bill I again showed her my fish and said it wasn't right. She started arguing again with me. I said it was the worst fish and chips we ever had, which was the truth. She took a step back from our table and began screaming at me that I didn't tell her I couldn't eat it and she could have brought me something else. She made such a scene it was unbelievable. I was quiet as she ranted, as this was not acceptable behavior. Worst restaurant experience I have ever had. I noticed other poor reviews of the fish and the bartender/waitresses' horrible service so hopefully something will be done.

In Ipswich 10/20/2023 - 10/26/2023Wish I could review the whole town. We really enjoyed our time in Ipswich; some of the nicest and friendliest people we have ever met.The Brown Dog Restaurant is an easy walk straight down the hill from the Inn where we stayed. I believe the Brown Dog was our favorite; ate there three times during the week and met some very nice people there. The lady behind the bar was great; I am terrible with names, or I would give her a "shout-out". Just in case she reads this; we were the couple from Alabama.Great Service, food, and atmosphere. Hope to be back someday.

Great welcoming environment! Just met up with a long time friend to catch up and took a far back table to chat just before the dinner rush.... The bartender was our server and quickly came around for our drink order and returned promptly with those and realized our chat was far superior to browsing the menu and told us that she would no longer interrupt our conversation but didn't want us to feel ignored, take your time you know where to find me....I found this such an unbelievably respectful action in such a get'em in and get'em out world!!! Just a fantastic gesture in such an impatient world!! When we did finally order we settled on multiple apps to share and the food was just as amazing as the staff!!!I would give six stars if I could! If you haven't given this place a try, I strongly encourage you to do so... such a quaint setting in a picturesque New England town!!!CHEERS!!!

Dumplings were good but maybe serve the dipping sauce in a dine in container. Drinks and service were good.
