The black friar inn in bar harbor- don’t stay there Stayed in the stained glass room. The ceiling leaked in 2 different places. They brought us a bucket said they thought the roofer fixed the leak. The lady with short hair was very nice very polite about the situation offered us a refund for the trouble. Called the next day as we left at 5:30am due to my husband being very congested and stuffed up. The guy Steve said no refunds will be issued as they’ve had the roof leaking a lot lately and due the rain it’s leaking again. #1 we were never told our room came with a leak #2 mold is of question where it’s been leaking(I work for a mold remediation company) Steve stated all he would do is give us a bucket. Then laughed.

Lovely place with friendly service. We stayed at the Inn and breakfast was included. Rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was 10/10. I thought it was just going to be limited menu but the entire breakfast menu was included with our stay. Highly recommend!
Walkability: Location was excellent and we were able to go to all of our favourite places.

We didn't stay at the inn, though we wished we had, but we had dinner at the pub and liked the food so much we returned the next morning for breakfast. Our server, Jake, waited on us both times and his service was outstanding. The food was delicious. Would definitely go there again.

Had the Lobster Chimis and they were out of this world. Also had the homemade lemon cheesecake with fresh blueberry compote and WOW. Bill, Jake, and Deb were awesome hosts and I'll definately go back
Walkability: They are centrally located for wandering to shops, water, and other bars/restaurants in the area

My wife and I had a night out here away from the kids and will absolutely be back. It's a small pub but the food and service was great. The pub has a big "local hangout" feel and only has a few seats at the bar. It wasn't very crowded when were ate here but everyone in the bar was a local other than us.
The Scottish eggs were outstanding and are an absolute must when eating here!
Be prepared if you eat here on a hot day. There are many open windows but no A/C and a lot of heat from the kitchen gets into the seating area.

Food was average and restaurant was difficult to find. A bit too warm inside during the summer due to lack of air conditioning

Picked the inn randomly back in February because it looked neat. So glad we did! Beautiful room with balcony. The owners have thought of so many details (even night lights in the bathroom). The bed was great. Breakfast every morning was a wide variety of choices (and all tasty). Parking is tight but it fit my 4Runner so will fit most other cars as well. Walking to every where in town was so nice to have (Bar Harbor traffic sucks). We had a great time and will absolutely book again if we head back up that way.
Walkability: Close to everything in town!

We showed up with anticipation on Thursday morning to try their brunch based on a glowing recommendation from the staff at Anchorage Motel (where we were staying).
It was empty when we walked in. Within a few moments we were met with hostility by a lady with a scowl on her face who interrogated us about why we were there. Our boys, 10 and 12yrs were visibly uncomfortable.
We explained that we were visiting, and had been referred there for a delicious brunch. She venomously spat out that: “breakfast finished at 10”
We continued to explain that we had walked in because the door was open and there was no signage stating it was closed.
Despite our explanation her tone did not soften. She treated us like trespassers and did not take any responsibility for the door being open nor for the lack of information regarding business hours. We hastily departed but did mention we would be writing a review so she was not caught off guard.
I typically write good reviews (which can be verified by Google) whenever we travel because I value good customer service, value gratitude and want to help small businesses grow.
Today however I felt an obligation to share our experiences to warn others so they are not made to feel like criminals while exploring the beautiful city.
It turns out the stranger we met was actually the owner! While she may have been having a bad day a simple apology would have gone a long way.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Black Friar Inn. It’s quirky and off the beaten path, but still right in town! It’s walking distance to most areas of town. The complementary breakfast each morning was amazing. We ate at the pub downstairs many times which was also yummy with great service. Rooms were comfortable and quiet. All in all great place to stay in Bar Harbor and while exploring Acadia. I would stay again!

We ate at the pub...totally cool atmosphere, good drinks and great food. The service was excellent. Parking, like everywhere in Bar Harbor, is a challenge.
Food & drinks: Pirates blood and ground beef tourtiere, yumm!
Noteworthy details: Unique Bar Harbor historic atmosphere.
