Love this place, perfectly adequate pub food and a great atmosphere, and classic beer styles on tap. Totally worth a trip for a pint of classic ale and some comfort food! However you don’t want to run into this one doorman in about his mid 20’s. The guy seems to usually work the front door on busy nights. He is beyond rude and entitled. I hope he loses his job eventually because I love going there but don’t want to be bummed out or frustrated running into him. Acted like ID’ing me wasn’t his job and I was inconveniencing him!? I’m here to spend my money and have a good time, not be barked at or talked down to

A sort-of regular at Gritty's, We were more than surprised when our bill included a "Service Charge" I asked our waitress (who was great) what this was for. She showed me a list of items the 3% service charge covered. it included a list that should be part of the cost of business - staff retention, restaurant upgrades and others. There are lots of brew pubs in Maine and in Freeport. We will be visiting the others from now on. Food is great. Waitress was terrific. Service charge will make us go someplace else.

Gritty’s in Portland saved the day! After a short notice cancelation after the most recent storm, Gritty’s hosted our 60-person party with no hesitation. Very busy for a Thursday late lunch. Samples for helpful trying to decide on beers. Waitress was very good. Fried chick and Rachel were great. Pan fried ravioli were good. Solid lunch!! Great beer!!

Beers were Terrible. I’ve had 1 million IPAs in my life, and this one was by far the worst. I had to go down the street and get a Maine Lunch ipa to cleanse my pallet. If you go here, stick to a can of mass produced beer.

My mother, daughter, grandson and I were seated outside. The sun umbrella from the table blew up out of its base and hit my mother’s hand and my daughter’s leg. We didn’t make a big deal out of it And went in and had our lunch. I am really disappointed in the staff that they didn’t come and check on my family and they never sent a manager over either. The food was good but bc they are so understaffed it took a while to get it.I see someone from the establishment read my review. I don’t want to get into a p#ssing match, but no one showed us inside. We asked if we could go in. No one from management approached us nor identified themselves. We went and seated ourselves of our own accord. Please be honest and next time be more accommodating.
