The atmosphere is amazing. The staff is so friendly and the owner / chef is incredibly attentive.The chef puts a lot of thought and effort into her menu and it’s always spot on delicious. The kitchen is TINY so don’t expect an “off menu” here. Check the menu before you come.The pastries are the best in SW Michigan. The cocktails are perfect.Try to sit outside if you can—the outdoor space is so relaxing and pretty. The inside is cute, but a bit tight.If there’s any constructive feedback; it’s a bit hard to know which door I’m supposed to go in / where I’m supposed to go. It can feel like you’re walking into a staff area.Overall you have to stop here if you’re in the area. It’s definitely something special.

I stopped for breakfast. Their breakfast was not worth spending the high dollar price.Maybe a lunch/dinner and drinks might be better.The breakfast menu had some nice sounding items; however, I simply wanted 2 eggs and some bacon. My bacon was burnt.Two eggs with bacon and coffee came to $24.It is not somewhere I would bother dining again. Atmosphere is nice and guessing they do OK.

We came here last summer while on vacation and I’ve meant to write a review ever since and am just now getting around to doing it. Better late than never!My wife and I tried Johnny cakes here for the first time and they were so good it almost makes you angry. Seriously. We came back a second time to get them before going back home and they were just as excellent the second time.Additionally, the staff were gracious and enthusiastic and the atmosphere was fun and upbeat. Really can’t wait to return to Michigan and visit Pennyroyal.

This place was spectacular. Our first time coming here. We will definitely be back! Great service, really cool atmosphere. Amazing food!I got an apple juice to drink and it was freshly squeezed so ?. I got the Johnny cakes with real Michigan maple syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon and side of hashbrowns. I never had Jonny cakes, but there corn cakes. there better than pancakes to me ha my new go too! They were so soft. The syrup was probably the best one I ever had. The eggs were so flavorful I ain't even have to use salt and pepper and I love me some salt haha. The hashbrowns were homemade ? I need to learn how to make them like there's. Some of the best hashbrowns ever.My love had the croissant breakfast sandwich with bacon,bacon jam, scrambled eggs and cheese with potatoes on the side. He said it was so great didn't need no salt and pepper on his eggs either. We were both very impressed ? ?

Sit outside if you can, it's beautiful. Inside is cute but very small and the server station is right on top of the tables. Everyone was really nice, the food was great. Pancakes are more griddle cakes, potatoes are these delicious crunchy wedges. We tried the cinnamon roll but I wasn't a fan (too much frosting but if that's your jam you'll love it). Coffee is excellent!

While some of the food items are tasty (Johnnycakes) the chef is very particular about substitutions or even modifications.For example it was a big deal to remove cheese and add mushrooms to a burger (despite the fact the side of mushrooms was on the menu)The waitstaff is kind. If you are open to waiting 30-45 minutes and are interested in a menu item with zero modifications then could be worth a try. Not good for anyone with food preferences, allergies, or intolerancesDietary restrictions: Not good for any dietary restrictions or even preferences
