I don’t like leaving bad reviews but unfortunately this was bad. We needed a quick meal and this was close so we tried it. My BLAT (bacon lettuce avocado tomato) was sadly just a BLT with zero avocado. The toast was burnt and stale, and the bacon was hard. My fruit bowl had unripened hard pineapple. My partners burger was good, and the service was friendly. That’s the only reason these review got two stars. It’s also a “self serve” restaurant so you’ll have to order yourself and they’ll bring your food.I hope I caught them in a bad day, but I won’t be returning.

The Bad Waitress is an interesting experience. They have taken their namesake to an interesting extreme: you don't order from a waitperson, you do it on a website. So it's kinda like the waitress is non-existent... At least until your food is ready. And then it's a lot of well-prepared, interesting spins on classic diner dishes in satisfying quantity. Will have to return to try more...

The place truly lives up to their name. I don't mind using QR codes to place orders and pay bills, but it's super awkward to have a dining experience where at no point you are ever acknowledged by staff at any point. Especially when sitting at the counter. To never be asked how things were, to never be asked if I had anything I needed, to never have you existence acknowledged when being in a restaurant for 30 minutes and eating breakfast is just weird.I won't be returning.

Over the weekend I got to visit a remastering of a Minneapolis staple. With classic-chic diner vibes and a superhero motif, Bad Waitress reopened after the statewide shutdown with a refresh of their digs and menu as well as a new, self-service working model. You can reserve tables and order conveniently from your phone or from the very user-friendly counter kiosks. To be clear, this working model allows the minimal kitchen and serving staff to work harmoniously to give you the best experience possible -- you still have friendly faces checking in and you're not left feeling like an automation zombie. With that out of the way, the new menu focus is super breakfasty with a few lunch items peppered in. The same locally and ethically sourced quality this joint has been known for remains and the food is an elevated take on classics. What we ordered: Perfect Pumpkin Pancakes ~ salted bourbon caramel sauce * candied walnuts Surfer Burrito ~ bacon * sausage * scrambled eggs * red pepper * onions * cheddar * french fries * served with pico de gallo Chicken & Waffles ~ fried chicken * chipotle hollandaise Kitchen Sink ~ pancake * 2 bacon * 2 sausage * choice of 2 eggs Americano (boozy shake) ~ bourbon * Bailey's * coffee Bloody Mary ~ made with Tattersall Tightline vodka Hours of operation are Thurs - Mon, 7am-2:30pm

The food was fantastic! The surfer burrito was mind blowing good. Who knew french fries in a burrito could be so tasty?! The strawberries & creme waffle was also the perfect amount of sweet for a fun sunday brunch. Definitely would recommend! Vegetarian options: Lot's of vegetarian and vegan options to choose and to customize to. Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu! Parking: There are a few free parking spots in a small lot behind the restaurant. Otherwise, ample street parking.

Visiting the restaurant during covid, it was a little weird because there was no (bad) waitress to take your order ? However, like before...the food was delicious. We ordered French toast with strawberries and blueberries, chicken and waffles, and milk shakes! Definitely love coming to the restaurant for some awesome breakfast!

Known for its service-yourself diner that's been a fixture at the prime corner of Eat Street this establishment has been hurting since Covid as it's pared back hours to a handful during mid-day. You think you're getting a deal without paying server tips until you checkout and notice a 16% "service fee"... for no service It's mostly a brunch menu with a few lunch options. The burger is basic but a decent value in today's rising dining costs atmosphere. Unfortunately the fries are a lackluster pairing with zero seasoning on an equally boring plate. Definitely no frills but why settle for sub-par diner food when you're on Eat Street? Recommended for a cheap hangover cure. Otherwise recommend exploring down the street.

They have a unique approach to ordering, wherein you scan a QR code at your table and place your order through the associated link, and the food gets delivered to you as it's rest. It definitely reduced the whole "they're waiting for me to make a decision" anxiety that other places have, and frees up the staff to be productive in other ways. The food was also solid-- good, classic diner fare that came out nice and hot.

Food was good. Be careful though. They sneak in a $10 volunteer extra charge. You can decline that charge but you have to watch out for it. Unfortunately I did not notice that and was charged an extra $10 over and beyond the tip I gave.

This was a disappointing experience. The computer ordering system is not user friendly. We had to enlist the assistance of the management to get our orders in. The system needs work. To top it off, the potato chips were stale.

It breaks my heart to say this but this place just isn't special anymore.I used to live in the neighborhood, I'd been there easily thirty times, it was my favorite breakfast in Minneapolis. In the years since, they've remodeled and overhauled the menu and now all the charm is gone. The new corporate owners were listed on the bottom of the menu and that's how it feels now: corporate. Sanitized. It used to be a vibe, now it's a brand. The portions were never generous but they got smaller. Not a single unique or interesting item to order. But it was still pretty yummy and reasonably priced. Staff were great. If I had never been here before I would've had no problems.

The name says it all.Ordering online and having the servers bring out the food is a great concept, but they don't seem to have the process down.We both ordered separately at the same time. Beverages came out, one meal came out and the other one was completely overlooked. This was during a time where there were 3 tables and 3 wait staff, so I'm not sure of the disconnect. The food is average. Nothing special here. Large portion, but mediocre food.Lastly, there is a 16% service fee and that fee doesn't go to the server. What? So for non-wait staff service you automatically pay 16% and then you have the option to tip the staff. Not sure why anyone would work here.I won't be visiting again. There are better food options.

I'll preface this review by saying I hold a fair bit of nostalgia for this Bad Waitress location. I used to live in the Whitter neighborhood and this was a frequent haunt of my roommates and I. Back then things were a little different, and frankly I'd give that a 5/5 without any hesitation. A few months ago we were trying to find somewhere in the Minneapolis area for a quick brunch with a friend who lived in the area and I immediately jumped at the chance to take my husband to my old stomping grounds. While the decor and vibe hasn't changed, the process for ordering/service has. Unfortunately, this is where they lose a star from me. However, the food was still excellent, and the decor is always fun to look at if you are a comic book fan (which my husband absolutely is). Was the music a little louder than I would've liked for a Sunday brunch? Yes, but I'm not going to get bent out of shape over that and honestly that was fine after I was able to get used to it. Instead of ordering at the counter and getting a comic book hero or villian assigned to you to take back to your table you now order from your table with a QR code. I have to imagine this was a change from COVID as many places seem to be moving to this direction. Once you order someone delivers it to your table and that's that. You pay on your phone and you are on your merry way. While I don't mind this kind of ordering system it would be helpful to have someone at least check in to confirm that everything is to your liking. We had one person stop by after we received our drinks but not after we received our food. We had to go up to the counter to get some additional condiments, etc. after our food arrived. Again, I realize this isn't the end of the world but it also wasn't very convenient for our particular situation. Lastly, as others have mentioned, not being able to adjust the tip can be a turn off. This didn't bother us, but is worth mentioning as I can see how that would put someone off. Stop in, try the coffee, get a scramble, and get lost in the comic book vibe.

I was a frequent flyer here before covid. I used to go here several times a month despite it being a bit of a drive for me. I only write this review out of love for what the Bad Waitress used to be. I'm not sure what happened but it feels like a completely different place. I'm not sure if they changed owners or just lost their way. They no longer serve any of their specialty malts. The whole aesthetic of the diner has changed to a more bland setting. The ordering has changed from the old school write it on a piece of paper and then bring it up which was fun and unique and now its just order it on your phone and you don't really interact with anyone. In my opinion it has changed from a unique quirky diner with a fun atmosphere and great specialty food and malts to the run of the mill diner that every town has (except those other diners give you a lot more malt for $9).On the positive side the malts were good and the chicken and waffles were fantastic.
