Monarch gives that 1940's metropolitan drug store cafe vibe. The type of place where the urban dweller sauntered in for an egg salad sandwich and a cherry phosphate and read the newspaper. While Monarch has the look of authenticity it doesn't make me feel like I want to stick around - it's more cold than warm in it's welcoming vibe. It had been a couple of years since I had been in and today was my wifes first visit. She had a fine iced coffee and I splurged for the seasonal Sweet Potato Latte - imagine drinking a sweet potato pie. Rich with a bold taste. A great destination if in the neighborhood, but not on top of my list for mid-town shops.

3.5 Stars--- the cutest coffee shop in Kansas City, but the Sweet Potato Latte was just not my thing. Just my personal preference though, because I've heard it is a popular drink! This place was pretty full on a Wednesday morning, but still makes a great place to study or catch up with a friend. Modern design, super aesthetic, and very instagrammable.

My matcha latte was good! The coffee shop is fancy and really pretty, but the music was pretty strange.

Came in on a Friday morning, and they had a nice crowd of people . When looking at the menu they don't have a huge selection of drinks, but what they do have they do super well. I got a chocolate croissant and malted milk latte. Now, they do seem to take their craft seriously... so if you want a fast turnaround this isn't the place for you. I waited about 10-15 mins, BUT it was worth the wait for my latte. I mean look at it! So pretty and baby the espresso was doing it's thing. The croissant was flaky, chocolatey, and perfect companion to the latte. Service was great! I would go back

Went here with a few friends to hang out. We got iced coffee, black coffee, iced coffee and some pastries! All were absolutely amazing but the matcha was the favorite such a cool environment inside with quality food and drinks.

A perfect study spot for the midafternoon. The vibes in the coffee shop were immaculate. I ended up being very productive due to the sweet potato latte and my butter croissant. The total of both were around $11. Both were tasty and I would recommend both. It was nice knowing that I was supporting a local business in Kansas City and not a major corporation. I highly recommend.

Great coffee shop, has a fresh and modern feel to it and the prices are fantastic compared to the bigger chains. We got the caramel Iced latte, cappuccino and double chocolate brownie, very impressed. Would definitely recommend .

Coffee was good . price was also good . Wish there was more seating by the windows and the parking was a bit weird but we found a spot .

Would not recommend for people who don't like the typical coffee shop coffee. However, I ordered a vanilla iced coffee and it was pretty good. The dining was very comforting and decorated beautifully. Definitely a great place to meet up with a friend!

This Coffee shop was really cute, and they had some of the most mature/complex mix of flavors I have ever tasted in a coffee... This place combines the balance and care of mixology with the craft of brewing. I loved it! - Orange Creamsicle Iced Latte - Emissary espresso, layered over milk with vanilla orange simple syrup - Interesting, it comes layered, and is good when shaken! - Hot Girl Summer Flash Brew - Toasted Coconut syrup, pineapple juice & sparkling water with dried/roasted coconut flakes on top - I thought this was a very unique mix of flavors; reminiscent of a long island iced tea cocktail... - KnickerBocker Milkshake - Emissary espresso, vanilla ice cream, milk, & vanilla; topped with cherry infused whipped cream - This was awesome! But also (as described) very much like a dessert. The cherry infused whipped cream was a great addition!

Turmeric latte! Oat milk, honey, ginger, turmeric- just a great start. You can get warm or cold. Staff is kind, friendly, and helpful. The environment is just beautiful - French cafe with huge windows.

My go to for any first visit to a Coffee shop/house is a standard hot Latte with whole milk as it reveals the truth. Monarch’s Latte was everything I wanted it to be. The pastries were good. The ambiance was lovely and the sound level was good- can easily talk to others or concentrate while working on your laptop.

Beautiful and serene spot that is elevated from your typical coffee shop, but not stuffy or formal. Friendly staff serving delicious drinks. Food is limited to pastries, but they were good!

The coffee was perfect. The atmosphere was beautiful. I ordered from the Spring Menu and had the Lavish Mocha. And the scone was the best scone I’ve probably ever had. I will definitely be back!
