Before I was 21 I used to go to Players because it was the only place I could go. I was young and naive enough to believe that this was what nightlife was, and even then I disliked it. I would go when my friends wanted to, and I never had a good time. Players is dirty, trashy, and full of sleazy men. The floors are sticky, the bar tenders are rude, and the crowd is always extremely drunk (this is because there is no way to have fun at Players sober). Its an experience to be had for a UNC freshman, i guess, but i don't see why you would ever go when you're old enough to go somewhere else.

Players is the closest thing to an actual club in Chapel Hill. There's a line, you go upstairs, and there you are. There's a dance floor, drinks, and lots of grinding, so if that's your thing, that's what you get. It's not an awesome establishment, but it's not terrible either.

A MUST visit if you find yourself in Chapel Hill. The place is like any college club but on steroids -- the stuff that goes on here in a Southern State of all places is worth checking out.

Name says it all. A staircase leading up to the club. They play top 40 stuff, there's people grinding, you can easily find someone to grind with if you're into that kind of thing. They've got a big dance floor and also some tables for sitting. I personally think their drinks are weaksauce. I went as part of a pub crawl, but I wouldn't return. There might've been cover? Nothing hefty, maybe $3? Yeah, it was the last stop of the pub crawl........... Not my cup of tea. But I think it may be many other people's cup of tea. Go to Player's & sketch upon each other.

I'd love to give Players a bad review, but I just can't hate one of the only places left to dance in Chapel Hill. I've never had a terrible time there, either, even though the place is full of 18 year olds and the drinks are watered down. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are the most popular nights, and of those only Friday is 18 & up. There's usually a long line on all 3 nights. And I have to pay my respects to the Holy Grail, simply because I have no idea how they make a drink with 5 different liquors actually taste good. I do wish that there were more places to sit, but then again that's not really the point at a dance club, is it? There are a few booths and barstools, but they fill up quickly. And just to clarify: when I say that Players is a dance club, I mean "dancing" as in "simulated sex." If you're looking for house music and bright lights, you might as well make the drive to Raleigh or Charlotte.

Oh, good times. Players is one of those clubs that knows exactly what it's about. When you come here you will dance. You will get drunk. You will probably leave with a member of the opposite sex. If any of these things appeal to you, then you should at least consider players. Paradoxically, the best time to come to Players is when it's crowded, but typically the line will be too long for you to get in. Solution: Show up early and be prepared to wait out the quiet period until things really get kicking. Their signature drink is called a Holy Grail, and god knows what's in it. It's decent, as cocktails go, but I'll stick to beers, thanks. I say again, this is a dance club. Not swing dancing, either, but the kind where you can't be sure who's having sex and who isn't. Come here to grind on strangers. That's what you do here, and it's probably the best place around for it. Cover: Bad. Lighting: Bad. Lines: Bad. Hordes of sexually charged college students: Good.

Players is one of Chapel Hill's remaining dance clubs. This place gets packed on popular nights like Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There is always a line out the door these nights, and you can wait up to 30 minutes just to get in. Once inside, the space isn't that large, and it tends to get extremely hot inside. The bartenders are pretty efficient though, but they make one weak drink. On certain theme nights (anything but clothes, pajamas, etc) Players can be fun, but it is not my favorite place to go on Franklin Street.

Player's has kind of a bad rep around town. But with all the other club closings, it's one of the few places you can get your dance on. It seems to have more space than the Library, but the atmosphere is definitely lacking. They keep it dark and it always feels a little dirty. What the other reviewer says is true -- underage patrons are everywhere, easily spotted in their denim minis, rainbows, and heavy eyeshadow. There's a couch section that invariably has someone quite nearly having sex on it. It's upstairs, and there's almost always a line to get in on the weekends, so clearly it's popular with some folks. I will say that the Holy Grails (mystery house cocktail) are very potent and easily sippable. And the DJs do a nice job mixing in older and current hip-hop and R&B stuff. And to change their image, they have implemented a dress code (no wife beaters, gentlemen).

This place was uber sketch. The Holy Grails are potent though. But it's uber sketch. At 19 years old, my friend gave me her older sister's expired license. I used it as a fake. The only place that let me in was players... when there weren't cops around. I'm a 5'4" Indian. The girl on the ID is a sandy haired white girl who's 5'7". SERIOUSLY?!??! Do you really need the business that bad?! I was nineteen, about 100 pounds, and i looked like i was 12. They must have REALLY needed the business.
