I lived in Los Angeles for 20 years where I got to know authentic Mexican cuisine. 28 years ago I came back to Charlotte and eventually gave up looking for the real thing. Today I ate two tacos from Tequeria El Dicho, a food truck.I sat near the truck at a table decorated with a festive Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) tablecloth. I squeezed my wedge of lime on a barbacoa taco, took a bite and went to heaven in my mouth!The quality, authenticity, and the incredibly rich flavors here need to be to savored slowly to be fully appreciated. I found myself wondering; 'How can something as simple as a taco have such complex and satisfying character?'The second taco was steak and every bit as good. The amount of filling in each nearly overwhelmed the soft, warm tortillas.The salsa verde has a unique zing that compliments the savory filling perfectly, and the rojo salsa has overtones of a fine, flavorful mole' with more than enough heat to make you sit up straight and pay attention!The personalities of the owner operators of this epicurean delight on wheels betrayed the pride they take in what they are creating.If you appreciate real people who know how to serve up real food, you'll love Taqueria El Dicho.I'm going back tomorrow for a burrito.
