If you want to experience Lexington (western) style BBQ, this is one of your top two options. Probably more famous for their Banana Splits, they hold their own with traditional shoulder pork; properly chopped or course. Plenty of seating and an atmosphere reminiscent if my childhood visiting local diners. If you can, ask for a chopped plate with sauce on the side…sometimes the pork can be drowning in the sauce without an opportunity to savor the smoke flavor the pitmasters work hard to curate.

I've grown up eating at the Barbecue Center, and it has always been great! The food, service, and atmosphere is perfect! And to add to the greatness, their banana splits are to die for! You have to experience it to understand what I mean. You will NOT be disappointed!!

Old style diner with red booth seats. Not especially clean. Had fried pork chops that were very good. Okra wasn't crispy and potato salad was a bit on the sweet side. Friendly wait staff.
Don't go to late or close to closing service will be awful. Great sausage hotdogs.

Don’t know whether or how we got this wrong. A half chicken. Pit bbq’ed. A Ray bbq sauce. Refrigerated. Only because the tomato accompaniment was what? A watery syrup. At a historic over 50 yr stalwart of chicken and slow cooked meat. Unbelievable.

Don’t get this BBQ confused with eastern North Carolina BBQ because they are different. This is Lexington style BBQ and they use just the shoulders for their BBQ and a vinegar sauce. If you are used to the sweet style the BBQ center/Lexington style will be a shock for you. The service is GREAT. They are very kind and will get you anything you need. The food is just right. I got a burger and it tasted amazing! It’s very clean inside and has a nice atmosphere.A Warning: the red slaw is not NORMAL SLAW! It is a vinegar based slaw (so basically slaw with vinegar and ketchup in it) if it’s not your cup of tea then don’t get it. White slaw is still and option. Over all it a great place to go in your traveling or just want to eat out!

Great place to have some BBQ, great atmosphere of yesteryear. Had the chopped barbecue and red coleslaw and a side of green beans some of the best out there. Definitely - if you're passing by on 85 worth the short drive. Actually worth a long drive on a Saturday to have a great lunch on a Saturday.
