“Bob Boudreau and I were in NOLA for 9 nights. Three of the nights we had reservations at other places with family. Our 1st night we looked up and found Jewel of the South. We loved it so much. we asked our nephew, his medical school advisor and his wife to join us. All three lived in NOLA and had never been here. All 5 of us would definitely go back in a heart beat. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Great staff. GREAT ALL AROUND! FIVE STARS for Jewel of the South.”

The staff was absolutely incredible — so friendly and knowledgeable. Explained Senegalese transitions and even started the meal with a table side hand wash. First off, with the service – it was seriously on point. You could tell the staff were genuinely enjoying service to us, which made the whole vibe very welcoming. Our server was MC, and chatting with her and the Host about the menu and small talk felt like shooting the breeze with friends – no stiff vibes, just good ol' friendly chatter. Now, onto the drinks – they were awesome! Very well balanced drinks and such a variety of options which continued on setting the stage for a memorable brunch. And the food? Well, let's just say, even though the brunch menu wasn't overflowing with options, each dish was a pure winner. We shared a bit of everything among our couples of six, and everyone agreed that the flavors were so perfectly balanced. Take the French toast, for instance; it wasn't crazy sweet as one would expect, it was just so naturally balanced that it left us all in WOW. “According to the hostess, this was originally an old rectory that they renovated and turned into a charming, warm and inviting space with kitschy seating. Upon entering, there is a dining space similar to a front room that leads into a livingroom complete with a fireplace. If you walk down the hallway, there is a curtained dining nook as well as an indoor patio and a lively bar area. They also have a super cute outdoor, open air dining space with plenty of seats.The house made focaccia was very delicious and a must! The oysters were good as they were from the east coast. We really enjoyed the roasted gulf shrimp, but we were not told that the heads would be on nor is it written in the description on the menu; so be prepared. Our main dishes consisted of the chicken under a brick and the daily fish of halibut. Both dishes were delicious! They only have two options for dessert and our chocolate tart did not look like the photo on their website but it was still good. The lavender semifreddo was fire! I couldn't stop eating it!Our waitress did a good job but there were a few things overlooked, like not being cognizant of empty water glasses, letting dishes pile up and not changing out our silverware and plates, however, she was in training, so we didn't say anything.This is definitely a neighborhood gem and not to be missed.”

“This is not fancy, this is an epically perfect dive bar. We headed here in NOLA to watch MSU game for the tournament. There were plenty of TVs, comfortable seating, and we sat right at the bar. Bartender was attentive, knowledgeable, and hilarious. Also the drinks are NOT weak! The food was totally perfect, definitely recommend the pizza and the potato skins. We did a lot while in New Orleans but this was one of our fav experiences.”

“A very nice escape from the Bourbon St madness. This place somehow manages to be a dive bar, and trendy at the same time. It's a friendly, intimate environment, with comfortable lounge furniture tucked away in a few corners, and a beautiful courtyard out back. I know a few other reviews mention the bathrooms, and they are certainly quirky; however, for me it was in more of a made you smile type way. They were extremely dark, only lighted by a pink neon sign. There is no mirror, so don't go in expected to tidy up your appearance. I have to assume these were conscious decisions made by whoever designed/decorated the place. What better way to say we don't care what you look like, and neither should you than to give customers no mirror or light to check their appearance in. There isn't much signage out front, so it'd be easy to miss when the doors are close. They just have a small hanging sign that says something along the lines of "last stop before the tourist traps" which I found to be both clever and true. I wouldn't say the drinks are cheap, but the quality is excellent and they are relatively affordable for what you'd be asked to pay at most any other bar near Bourbon. The bartender was extremely nice, and the drinks were finished quickly. I didn't get to spend nearly as much time here as I would have liked because we had a busy afternoon ahead, but High Grace will certainly top the lists of bars I stop off in next time I'm near the French Quarter.”

“If you're into a dive bar vibe, this is the place for you. It actually has a coin operated laundromat in the bar and the bartender will give you a cup of soap. My GF and I did a load of wash and enjoyed some shots and cocktails while we waited. We went there three times in our ten day visit to NOLA simply just to chill and have some cheap drinks.”

“First Aunt Tiki’s experience was about 15 years ago. This year my wife let me bring the kids. My 23 year old and I went to see my Cowboys get beat on Christmas Eve. Love this bar. New and fantastic every time I sneak in. Unfortunately after I left, in the rain, slip sliding over to Bourbon St. I eventually slipped my best slip and fractured my fibula, skinned my knees and scabbed up my forehead. I’m paying for it now but it was an epic adventure. Love all of you there but I’m gonna give the old liver a break for a while. 10 out of 10 if you’re cool!”

“I stopped here on the way home from New Orleans, only 2 miles off I-10, so not really out of the way. We have a long drive, so I selected a steamed char sui bun, Pate Chaud, meat pie, Crawfish pie, coconut macaroons, mochi, and a pineapple bar. Omg, the Crawfish pie! It had so much filling, Crawfish, bamboo shoots, scallions, and seasonings I'm not sure of, but it was very spicy and delicious! I'm trying to find a recipe for it in my Vietnamese cooking group, because Google turned up nothing. The Pate Chaud was delicious too, but not as much filling as I wanted. The coconut macaroons were amazing, and surprisingly made without sweetened condensed milk, but you would never know that except for the ingredient list. The pineapple bar was not too sweet, as it looked, perfect for me. The mochi were delicious, with the all familiar chew. Have two more pies to sample, but I have no doubt they will be delicious too!”

This was kind of the crowning jewel of our trip to New Orleans. A lot of lackluster experiences down there but Manolito truly was a masterpiece. “The looks of the food does no justice. You have to actually try their food. Living in a world with so much inflation and bad unhealthy food, I left here feeling like I received my monies worth. “The beignets were delicious. They have coffee with regular milk only. For people who don’t tolerate milk, you will have to drink your coffee black. When I arrived there was a long line. After I got in, I noticed there was another entrance on the other side. As you see the main establishment facing the street, the main line is on the right,the other entrance is on the left and no one was making a line. When you come in just find a table and sit down, don’t worry about it being with dirty plates and empty coffee cups from past clients. Someone will come and clean it up. They get upset if you clean up. They will take your order and bring it to the table. They accept cash only.”

Booking a reservation on a Monday at noon, our party of four walked in and were served in no time.To feed myself, wife, mother-in-law, and seven-year-old daughter, we ordered the fried chicken hummus, mushroom hummus, pide, and three dips (labneh, beets, and moussaka). We were literally full from noon to the next morning. The staff is friendly and amazing. Food is prepared fresh when you order it and comes out fast. The special secret sauce pairs well with the fingers and fries. Cane’s specialises in chicken fingers and they do it right. Their tag line “One Love” is perfect and is present throughout your Cane’s experience. “I’ve never reviewed my greatest restaurant ever but I will start now. In October my wife and I went to Emeril in New Orleans. Not an easy reservation but worth the time, effort and long trip from our home in Hawaii. Our experience was great. . We knew that there were plans to shut down Emeril for a total redesign from top to bottom. We waited for the exact date to try to get a reservation and luckily secured one. We had absolutely no idea what to expect. The experience we had proved that the “new Emeril “ is the best restaurant we’ve ever been to. I will not describe each dish since it would take up too many words but know that each dish was outstanding. Now I will explain why Emeril is #1 in the eyes of both my wife and myself. Online you will see that there are two Tasting Menus, no a La carte so we were at least prepared for what we were going to eat. We were not prepared for the following total mind bending and culinary experience. When entering Emeril you are greeted with a true Aloha greeting. We sat at the gorgeous bar since we were early and had a Vieux Care our new go to cocktail. The mixologist continued with the Aloha Spirit and made an exceptional Vieux. The bar area was awesome. In a very short time we were greeted by a hostess who escorted us to the brand new dining room. It totally blew our minds. Twenty or less tables with a huge space between them. You almost feel that you are the only guests there. The table we sat at had a large banquette that just added a new dimension to comfort. Large gorgeous pillows supported our backs. Almost directly in front of us was a huge glass enclosed kitchen. This was pure culinary theatre. Almost immediately a chef came to our table and asked us if we would like to see the inside of the kitchen. We didn’t bat an eye and followed him into the most gorgeous well thought out kitchen we’ve ever seen. The chef gave us a brief description of the kitchen, introduced us to the staff and the entire team offered up a special hello. We both felt like the greatest VIP’s. He then showed us to a small table next to us that had two champagne flutes with what he said was a rhubarb juice. Also on a plate was a cube of some unbelievable jellied concoction to showcase the ingredients. Back to our table and the party began. The two tasting menus were explained, one Classic and the other Seasonal. Then the Amuse Bouches started arriving. We expected only one or two. Nope, two sets, one group of cold, the the other warm. Each one was as great as the seven small main dishes. The beauty of the entire experience was that we both left feeling sated, never full. The service was impeccable. Never hovering but always there and totally knowledgeable about every dish and that includes ingredients. The sommelier was the antithesis of what many sommelier’s are. Being Wine Educators and Consultants we really appreciated his knowledge and communication skills as well as his passion towards wine. We had a dedicated service team who I would love to take with us to other great but not perfect restaurants. Jason Burse, the Assistant General Manager made the whole experience into a perfect culinary tour de force. This is why we both feel that Emeril is the Best Restaurant we’ve ever eaten at. Although expensive, it did not break the bank. Can’t wait to return next October.”

The tuna crudo was light and refreshing. The venison tartare was interesting although slightly chewy. The escargot was prepared differently than in the shell and seemed sautéed. The gnocchi was the star of the show and was amazing! Even the amus-bouche was decadent.If you have a chance to visit - please do - you will not be disappointed”

Now I'm a gentleman so I take less than half the rolls we split, just so I can woo her with, "Please! This one is all yours!" I look like a boss. That's a pro tip, guys. She always does that delicate flower move of, "I'm so stuffed! Take the rest!" You know how it goes. Not this time amigo! I had two of six and she's going after that fourth like it's Mardi Gras. The other was a rice paper thing with a cucumber hat and a touch of spice... had it's own special subtly sweet citrus dipping sauce. Insane! Talk about balance. Speaking of... tempura appetizer. Yeah, you already know what it looks and tastes like just by saying those words, right? Nope! A slice of lemon in the dipping sauce. Mind. F'ing. Blown. Seriously, why are you still reading this and not going there right now to eat their food!? I work ten minutes away. I'm seriously making this place a regular weekly lunch thing. If they aren't yelling my name, like Norm in Cheers, as I walk in for lunch, I'm taking that as a personal failure on my part. The wait time was slow and the waiter was busy but had a great attitude. Food is cooked at the time you ordered it and was worth the wait. Without wasting any time, we ordered them both, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint!The jumbo scallops were delicately placed on a bed of crayfish risotto, sautéed with sweet onion, pepper, and herbs. They were surrounded by a red pepper chive butter sauce and garnished with crispy sweet corn. As for the soft shell crab, it was served atop a fresh corn maque choux, accompanied by a lemon butter sauce. Both dishes were exquisite and perfectly balanced, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the scallops.”

I tried the shrimp and grits and it was GOOD. That stole the show for me. Overall not my favorite place for creole food, but still worth a visit.”

Seafood platter: comes with fried fish, shrimp, and oyster.The fish and shrimp were SPECTACULAR. Sooo tasty and loved the sauces that came with. Didn't love the oyster (but not a fried oyster fan in general), a bit chewy. Fries were excellent. We actually ended up coming here again during our trip, the second time we ordered raw oysters, etouffe, and a shrimp platter and a fish platter. Raw oysters were delicious and the etouffee here is also super tasty! Wish the platters game with more fish/shrimp, felt the same amount as the seafood platter.”

With all the big name restaurants we visited in New Orleans, this was our favorite meal of the trip. Ambience was nice and quiet and the wines were awesome.
