It all started with a shipment of chicken breasts that couldn't be used for airline meals. Truett Cathy took this opportunity in the early 1960s to create a fast chicken sandwich for the shift workers. In 1964, that's how Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwiches were born. Prior to this, there were no fast food chicken sandwiches available anywhere.

2. There's a secret menu

Once you read this, you're likely going to break down the door to get to your closest Chick-Fil-A to order one of these. You can ask for a spicy chicken sandwich with Buffalo sauce on top for a Buffalo chicken sandwich. Or try a root beer float. Some locations can make you a blueberry cheesecake shake if they serve blueberry cheesecake. At some of the locations in the Southwest, you'll even be able to order a chicken quesadilla. If you want to keep things healthy, there's a secret menu item you will love. Just ask for the Spicy Char. It's Chick-Fil-A 's grilled chicken with spicy sauce on it. It's everything you love about the Spicy Chicken Sandwich without being fried.

3. It's been switching to healthier ingredients

While staying true to the traditional flavors we all know and love, Chick-Fil-A has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to swap out high fructose corn syrup, antibiotics, preservatives, and artificial dyes. That means it's an even better-for-you choice than ever before!

4. Over 1,200 recipes were tested for the grilled chicken

Chick-Fil-A spent 11 years working on the perfect grilled chicken recipe. They went through over 1,200 unique recipes before deciding on the one you taste in their restaurants today. Part of it had to do with finding the right grill to achieve that level of perfection.

5. They use peanut oil

Peanut oil is what they use to fry their chicken and fries. It lends even more distinction to the special flavors of the chicken plus it's a naturally trans fat-free oil. No guilt here!

6. You can trade the kid's toy for free ice cream

If your kids have enough toys, you can exchange the kid's toy in your child's meal for a free ice cream cone. Just tell them when you order or go back up to the counter and trade the toy in for a free cone.

7. The coleslaw has been retired

Thanks to demand for healthier foods everyone, Chick-Fil-A quietly retired their coleslaw which had graced menus for almost 50 years. Instead, you will find kale and broccolini salad which is a rather tasty replacement.
