They decided to give me food poisoning by covering my dinner in castor oil. I paid over $200 for two people to be purposely poisoned on Christmas.I never write reviews. This review is because this event continues to haunt me and intrude my mind. There is never a good excuse to hurt someone and all because I simply asked the man who was our server what was floating in my drink. I’m a young, soft spoken woman who never had mulled wine before and simply wondered if the small, fibrous mass was not supposed to be there. It was my second and the drink seemed clear the first time, although both glasses were incredibly sticky to the touch all around the outside of the glass, it a part of the reason I wondered if the mass was from a dirty glass. The waiter took the glass and came back with the same one (added a few fresh cranberries) to inform me it’s customary for mulled wine. My partner and I embarrassingly thanked him and explained how we didn’t know as we accepted the wine back. When dinner arrived, my fish was visibly covered in a dark colored oil. I assumed it was olive oil. The dish did not taste good, The oil had a bad taste but I did not was to speak up again. Just be a thankful, gracious woman who traveled two hours just to try and have a peaceful holiday. I wanted to cultivate a semblance of a good Christmas when my family life was in shambles, all to have a waiter looking at my dish ever time he passed. Being a server myself I know to check on tables and pacing. But to have the lack of customer service know how to not only realize the glass your giving me is sticky everywhere, to pouring castor oil on my food as I later found out is despicable. After dessert and paying, my partner & I went into the next room to sit by the fireplace. We felt very unwelcome as the waitress over there took our candle from the small table in front of us and blew it out! Were they all aware and trying to get us to leave before I start vomiting? Why would they do such a horrible thing on a holiday all about good will toward men? Was it because I was a white woman with a black man? We received a lot of looks on our way out, & it’s not like we were underdressed either. Very elegant and hoping to enjoy our first time at the Ebbitt Room. While it was clearly a busy holiday for this restaurant, our holiday suffered because the staff decided to make us feel outcast and even inflicted trauma on me and a trip to the ER for Christmas. DONT GO HERE!

My friend and I had an amazing night at the Ebbitt Room. First impression walking in is so inviting and cozy. Now to our dining experience - WOW! Every dish we had was delicious with perfect presentation. Chef Daddy Jason wined and dined us, and made us feel so special! I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. A definite go to when in Cape May.

Beautiful atmosphere, incredible service, and THE FOOD!!! An absolute 10 out of 10. Every dish we had was so delicious. We had six different dishes in total with perfect wine pairings from the sommelier, and every single one was very impressive. Chef Jason is so passionate about his craft and it shows. My friend and I had a wonderful time. Cannot recommend The Ebbitt Room enough! A must-do Cape May experience!

We first just randomly stopped in here for a quick cocktail and ended up making a dinner reservation! The atmosphere is seriously amazing! It feels like back in the day and we loved the whole vibe! The bartender was super friendly and so was our waiter and the front desk person. Seriously everyone was very friendly and nice! The cocktails were made perfectly and tasted great. Best burger I've ever had and so was the delicious calamari. We loved the whole vibe and people and definitely recommend. Don't let the prices sway you away because it's worth the experience!

There are few restaurants that are on the pricey side where the experience is truly worth it. The Ebbit Room is undoubtedly one. The food, service, drinks and atmosphere are all so good it is impossible not to love the place. We keep going back as often as we can.

Definitely one of the best dining experiences we’ve had at the Jersey shore. The Virginia Hotel is beautiful and it was really festive for Christmas. It has the old world charm of Cape May with modern touches and a comfortable atmosphere. We ordered their cheese board to start, and it was really good - the plate included several local cheeses with honey, nuts, and fruit jelly; we also had the Parker House rolls. I ordered the half chicken with escarole, and my husband ordered the 8 oz filet mignon; both were delicious. We split the side of brussels sprouts and they were also great. To top off our experience, they had zero-proof cocktails, which were so much better than the typical juice-heavy mocktails ordered at most bars. I had the William’s Refresher and it was perfect and light. We will absolutely be back! It’s hard to find a good fine dining restaurant at the shore and the Ebbitt Room really nailed it.

We have gone to a lot of restaurants along the Jersey shore, and this is one of our new favorites! Excellent food and service. The calamari app was fabulous. Probably the best we’ve had and our entrees had a lot of fun flavors. The lamb is a must get. Will be

Food has improved over years past, which warrants the prices. Recommend as one of the better eating options in Cape May during off season.

My husband and I made a reservation here for Thanksgiving dinner. I will mention here that i eat a plant based diet and had reviewed the menu to be sure there was an option. When we arrived for our reservation, we were informed that the table wouldn’t be ready for ten minutes. After the 10 min wait, we were informed it would be another 10-15 mins. After 20 mins we were seated and given menus which were fixed price and not including the plant based option. We were surprised as this was not mentioned on the website or by the person who took our reservation. My husband checked with the host and confirmed that they would accommodate me nevertheless. The dinner was okay (I very much enjoyed my main course) and the evening was ultimately saved by our fantastic waiter who was very kind and helpful. However the price tag seemed rather steep for what we received - I mean, I paid $30 for 3 small scoops of sherbet with no toppings? My husband was also not impressed with his dinner and we both wondered about the presence of alcohol in our cocktails. While it was clearly a demanding holiday for this restaurant, our holiday lacked the magic we hoped to find at the Ebbitt Room. We’ve decided to cook in the efficiency kitchen at the hotel next year.
