I was able to reserve on Resy with 2 days lead time. It asks for a credit card when reserving which helps weed out those who may cancel. I am not mad at them for having this system in place! We did not wait to get our table once arrived and no one else who came in really gad to either so their system is working as designed. Our waitress Candy was very warm and knowledgeable of the products and recipes. Quality food. We appreciated attention to detail. As you can see the menu was especially printed with a “Happy Anniversary” since I mentioned the rsvp was for that. I can tell the quality ingredients were used and whoever is the chef is passionate about their art. I was gifted a gift card from one of my clients after representing them in the purchase of their home and it was used well:) The portions are on the small side and food can take a tad bit long so mentally prepare or order an appetizer. Overall great experience and would recommend!
Nice touch on having my name on the menu for my birthday. We tried a few starters, all were good, but the chicken liver pate was very good. Mains were solid. My wife's pork was definitely tastier than my braised beef. The beef was cooked well but it was a bit bland. The jus was a watery stock. For dessert we had a maple mouse and whipped cream. I am not a dessert guy but that was dynamite. Staff were friendly. They also dress very informally if that is a problem for anyone.
Sensational! I’ve been meaning to try Turtle + the Wolf since moving to the area last year, and it did not disappoint. Funky and elegant atmosphere, unique dishes, and incredibly helpful staff. Perfect spot for a date night!
Their fried chicken meal is so delicious! We usually take away so we can be comfortable and eat at home. But we came as a family and the staff were friendly and patient with us. We ordered all of the desserts on the menu because we couldn’t choose one and none of them disappointed. Great dinner spot
By far one of the best restaurants in Montclair! The chicken dinner to-go is incredible, and even better if ordered at the restaurant for dine-in (not on the menu, but you can ask the server). I haven’t had a dinner at T&TW that I didn’t absolutely love, and the BYOB is an added bonus!
We came here to celebrate my bff's birthday. We loved the oysters, liver pate, braised shirt ribs and the pork special. Every dish was prepared perfectly and was scrumptuous! Can't wait to return!
Wow! Everything we ordered was a homerun and the service was very friendly and funny. We had the oysters special, the beet and watermelon salad and the burrata. Next up was the Agnolotti, the Pappardelle and the Short rib. We closed the evening with 3 out of the 4 desserts. All the dishes had amazing flavors and presentations, and we cleaned off every plate. Also, we ordered the bread with sea salt and it was very addictive. We sat outside, which was really nice. Oh, and the bathrooms are adorable! Bon appetit!
Another Friday evening. Dinner plans mean more adventures among our list of "Pending Montclair Restaurants". Following a reveiw of those remaining, The Turtle and The Wolf was chosen to be this evening's destination. A relatively short drive from our home, we parked in the municipal lot which is just behind many of the storefronts lining Valley Road, between Bellevue Ave and Lorraine Ave in Upper Montclair. Walking around the corner onto Valley Rd, we found the entrance to Turtle and Wolf to be quite unremarkable when considering it's outstanding reviews. Entering the modest vestibule, we were pleasantly greeted by their hostess. Although we arrived in time for our 7:15PM reservation, we were advised that our table was not quite ready. However, moments later, we were quickly shown to a very nice table located beneath a wall of framed art executed by a local artist. A small brochure was made available to us which described each of the pieces of art along with contact info for the artist. Surprisingly, ownership made wonderful use of the somewhat narrow dining space that spanned an area from the vestibule all the way back to the rear exit and patio. It was now 7:30PM and, although quite full, the dining room did not appear crowded at all. Staff and customers made their way to and from the center "aisle" with tables and cushioned seating areas on both sides. Pleasing music could be heard from an overhead sound system which added to the ambiance. Without any wait, we were provided with our own ice water pitcher along with menus. Our server was very knowledgeable and reviewed the specials as well as responding to all of our questions on their cuisine. Our wine was opened quickly and left to chill within an ice bucket suspended off of the table. Despite what appeared to be a full house, the crowd was, indeed, refined, as the chatter between diners and staff, and guests themselves, was never over-bearing. I could see, early on, that our dining experience would be nothing short of enjoyable. Our service continued to be impeccable. Starters were explained in detail. Again, our server knew her stuff and it showed. Although not an extensive menu, Turtle and Wolf does exceed with what they prepare. Our apps were simply delicious and our Mains as well! The Chef did not disappoint with his artistic presentations as well as the overall taste of our food. Dinner: For my wife, the Braised Short Ribs, beautifully done! For me: the Salmon which melted in my mouth! Portions were very appropriate for both of us. Desert: Brioche Doughnuts, quite a departure yet a fantastic end to a great dinner (order the doughnuts!) Featured impressions: Our server: seamless, upbeat, very efficient. We left via the "back door" which leads to an attractive outdoor garden dining area. We will request seating here during our next visit. The Turtle and Wolf succeeded in making a valient effort which resulted in us having a very comfortable and enjoyable evening.
Crazy delicious and wonderful ambiance and service. Smarter than most NJ restaurants that claim to be on the cutting edge.
Celebrating my birthday at Turtle and The Wolf was definitely a highlight of the day! We ordered: Braised Short Rib + Roasted Beet Salad + Simple Green Salad + Side Order of Fried Potatoes + Arancini! For dessert we ordered the Maple Pot de Creme & the Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart! Everything we ordered was absolutely yummy and delicious! Phenomenal service and lovely surroundings in the backyard! Can't wait to come back and try Lo's famous fried chicken next time around!! Yum yum!
This place was alright. I've definitely ate at better restaurants. It was also really small. Food was alright.
It was last minute and they had 1 table left. And it was all amazing. Love that it's a BYOB. We've done fried chicken dinners here before but we're super excited to have regular menu food. Did not disappoint.
Excellent all around. I was quite impressed by the food quality, service, and overall experience. A step above some of the other restaurants in the area that are considered to be great. The fried chicken was good, as I expected based on word of mouth, but some incredible appetizers and sides: burrata and brussel sprouts, beets, blistered shishito peppers, biscuits, even the salad! Looking forward to going back and trying some of the other entree options.

When you think of post covid dining there are certain boxes you want to check and Turtle-Wolf checks them all. The atmosphere is perfect for date nights or a hang out with friends, dimly lite but not to dim, music hangs in the air but never loud enough to stop conversation. The food is so amazing, you should get a decent spread so you can try as much as possible and share among your party. The flavor profiles of each dish is clearly and carfully planned out, this was easily the best food I've had in a long time.
