The weekend spot has been one of my staples at least twice a month. The food is always excellent and served in great portions as well as temp. Whenever I need some good soul food after a long week the Weekend Spot is it!
I met Chef Mo in Restaurant Depot. She told me about her restaurant in Newark. I told her I would visit the following week. The food at The Weekend Spot was excellent.... I am a New Yorker and we love food. I had the Mac and cheese, Collard greens, Jasmine rice, black beans, potatoe salad, fried chicken and Oxtail stew..... I better not forget the banana pudding.....Everything was good. I mean excellent..... Flavors are bursting thru your mouth. Thank you Chef Mo for introducing me to your Weekend Spot Restaurant.... The workers are Friendly, helpful and professional......Please visit The Weekend Spot you will not be disappointed....I am recommending this spot to all my family, friends and co workers.

Highly disappointed. We came in to order and spent close to $100 on our order. After waiting in line for almost 20 minutes, to place our order, with only 2 people in front of us (which, one left without ordering)our order was taken. We watched multiple orders being over the phone and additional walk in orders come and go. Several times we were told our order would be out shortly. An hour and 40 minutes later, after speaking up..... we had our food. Definitely not worth the wait at all, let alone the food was cold when we got our order.

Whew! I'll try to be kind while still giving my honest feedback. This was the second time I ordered from The weekend spot and I hate that I didn't give that chance to another business. I spent $50 on a whiting plate with rice and cabbage and fried chicken with kale and macaroni. The whiting was ok, seemed to be a bit thinner than I'm used to having. The rice was ok. it didn't seem to be fresh or seasoned well. The cabbage was only boiled with no other seasoning. The kale was ok. The macaroni was murdered. Dry and not cheesy at all. I'm from the south, born and raised, and it seems my folk up North need a lesson on how to make a proper mac and cheese. Now the fried chicken really burned my biscuits! Why are you using old, burnt grease to fry fresh chicken??? Old grease, possibly used to also fry fish, has a smell that permeates through the food you cook in it. I will be reaching out directly to management, but it looks like whenever there is a complaint, the only thing that is said is they missed the mark and hope you'll come back. No inquiry about your experience, no offering to come back and enjoy a "meal on us." or not even an offer to reach out for a personal apology. Not how you handle complaints, which seems to be consistent amongst patrons. I'd love to support you in the future, but you all have your work cut out for you. Please work on being better.

This place is trash …front girl worker had to be about 16 was very slow on the cash register…counting seemed little bit hard for her..she moves beyond slow & can’t handle more than one thing at a time.. I stood in line for 10-15 with only 2 other customers in front of me ! Mind you they called me & stated the food was ready 15 mins prior .Now lemme get started on the FOOD. STAY AWAY ! It’s giving “I just woke up 1 day & decided to open a restaurant” . I’m really curious as to where the cook got their culinary training from ? On paper a Puerto Rican soul food infusion is an amazing idea but there has to be execution & on that note failed miserably. You have to know how to be able to mix & blend flavors correctly & not rely on sofrito sauce to get you buy. Everything was bland tasteless …the MAC & cheese was beyond horrendous…just noodles dried up cheese & pepper! Salt non existent! Why are there over 60 menu items for such a small establishments. Focus on a few menu items & get those to perfectionOverall I would stay away there much better quality of food in the area. The customer service is what really sealed the deal for me Wendy’s drive through at 1am moves faster then this place & that little big child they have working the register
I was skeptical about this restaurant. Only because I was trying it through DoorDash.Let me tell you! I ordered the whiting and shrimp. It came with hush puppies and fries. The sides I ordered were 2 garlic string beans, 1 order of cabbage and 2 slices of cornbread.I also ordered the Smothered chicken. You can choose dark or white meat.My husband chose the breast and a wing in chicken gravy for my husband it came with 2 sides. He chose the garlic potatoes and the yellow rice. The fish and shrimp was pleasing to my eyes! That’s a huge deal to me! I told my husband that the food was pretty ! The color of the food was perfect coloring. The fish and shrimp had a golden color. and fried just right it was not hard and dry it was very pleasing to my pallet! The string beans were on point for my husband and myself! The cabbage was on delicious and not greasy! The cornbread was fresh and melted in our mouths! My husband said that the smothered chicken was delicious as well as the rice ,string beans cornbread was delicious!!Run do not walk to this restaurant! You definitely will not go wrong! This was our first time ordering from there but it definitely will not be our last!!

The Weekend Spot is a soul food take out that I stumbled across while working a freelance gig in Newark. The food was good, the service was on point and Mo the owner was so cool and chilled we had good conversation while I was placing my order. I got the Whiting dinner with mac cheese, collards/cabbage mix and corn bread. This place is definitely the Weekend Spot for soul food take out. I didn’t even get home before I ate it all in my car ? ? Mo we need a Weekend Spot in the New Brunswick, Somerset area for sure!I ll be back soon.Mike

The food was ok could've definitely been alot better. I had bbq chicken (dark meat) with bake mac & cheese and sweet potatoes. The bbq chicken was over sauced i felt like a whole bottle of bbq sauce was poured over the chicken. The mac & cheese was dry and the sweet potatoes were different they had pineapples and raisins in them which was kinda good minus the raisins. For dessert i had banana pudding which was awesome .
