This was our first visit, and we will definitely eat here again when in the area. The menu is surprisingly robust for a small town café. Burgers, a good sized assortment of sandwiches, New Mexican dishes, breakfast, and pizza. The owners were cooking and waiting, and being the slow season weren't terribly busy so visited with us quite a while. My husband had a burger and fries and I had a chicken wrap with bagged kettle chips. For an uncharged there were several other side choices. Our meals were delicious and filling. The decor is rustic and in the winter is heated by a wood stove in the center of the room. There is outdoor seating in nice weather. Also, there is a cell tower behind this 100 year old building. If you're driving through, I'd highly recommend this little family run restaurant.

Kid-friendliness: Very easy place for kids to eat and they had a high chair for our child.

The green chile cheeseburger was delicious. But, my hot chocolate was stale and watery. After a couple of drinks, I realized that it wasn't mixed before serving it to me. Other than that it was a very cute eclectic Cafe! We loved the decor.

Nasty Rude Waitress. Don't recall her name but when I went through this small town on my way to Albuquerque last week she waited on me and was extremely sarcastic and seemed to enjoy belittling me in front of the other customers which I believe were locals. So hey Nasty Rude Waitress ya lost some business as I wont be back. Additionally I will be driving through about once a week and would need a place to eat but definitely will not stop at Chubascos where Nasty Rude Waitress works ! So jokes on you rude woman !! When people spend a high price for the check they should feel good about the money they spend. Don't be insulting to your customers for your own entertainment.

Grande Huevos Rancheros very well executed. Spicy, tasty red with home made hash browns, beans and a grilled tortilla made for a great meal.
Pleasant surprise on Main Street in Quemado.

Had two great lunch meals here as we stopped going and coming: fantastic Ruben with best coleslaw ever and the artisan pizza had outstanding crust and wonderful toppings. Great, quirky place with husband and wife owners working their butts off to deliver highest quality food. Highly recommend it. Outstanding food!

In short: Don't stop here if it's busy. Waited nearly an hour and never got our food. Broken one stall restroom, terrible service.
Long version: Walked in and was told, "take a seat at the dirty table." It was noon and busy, ok no problem. Asked about the restroom, "it's out of order, someone broke the handle." Well after driving 2.5 hours that was disappointing, but ok I understand. Asked if we could at least wash our hands and the sink was leaking water into an over flowing bucket. Sit down to order, we asked for one order of fries to be extra crispy which the waiter nodded in agreement, then I asked for fries with no salt. Waiter responded, "all the French fries are made together so we aren't really able to make custom orders." I replied, oh so how are you making the other order of fries extra crispy? Waiter realizing his mistake, because he didnt mention that the first time says, "well we have like 20 orders of fries so they're all made together." After waiting 45 minutes we asked roughly how much longer to expect. 50 minutes had gone by and the guy finally says, "we lost your ticket, but we found it and your food will be ready in about 20 minutes. Is that alright?" Well, no, that's not alright. He replied, "you can leave or you can wait. I mean if you can't tell we are really busy."
The point is, they lacked any customer service. They know there's not another town with food for at least 50 miles and live off drive through tourist. Had they had any sympathy to offer crackers, a bun or something for our 2 year old after he was sitting patiently nearly an hour waiting for our food that never came. It's short order cooking and the cook was doing his best to keep up, I understand, but busy or not their waiting service was horrible. Plan to drive through and get food in the next town.
