This is a must try restaurant whether you're a visitor in the city or local foodie. It's located in a historic building with much of the original stone and wood beams in tact. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. Only issue is that you need to book far enough ahead to get the day and time you want as it's not a ‘best kept secret' and it's highly popular. Plan ahead and you won't regret it!

I guess not my cup of tea, food was bland to me so I ended up leaving after appetizers. Went for my birthday but ended up at the keg with a much better experience

We went here for the February Dine Around menu and, to be honest, we were disappointed. Although the Dine Around menu prices were reasonable, without that the prices would have been inflated for what you get. This very much felt like just a nice pub - in terms of food, service and atmosphere - and not like the fine dining experience I would expect for those prices.

The food is a bit expensive, but it's worth visiting! Great customer service.

One of the best experiences in Halifax restaurants. Certainly the best tasting seafood. I had the risotto and my friend had the chef Bryan scallop both were so delicious and gluten free. The atmosphere is charming with real candles and stonewalls. The service staff were so friendly and professional. Julia our waitress was courteous and alert. The menu options seemed somewhat limited and the prices are not cheap.I will visit again for oysters Dietary restrictions: We ordered 2 celiac safe gluten free options, risotto and chef Bryan scallops

We visited the restaurant with guests from abroad. This was several months ago. The Press Gang is still being mentioned on the phone calls: Do you remember that cool place with the live piano and awesome food? We definitely want another visit!". The atmosphere was amazing. The live piano definitely make it special. The food was exceptional and the service was kind, polite and very professional.

My partner have the pork bellies as an appetizer and the shank of lamb. She said that both dishes were amazing as evidenced by me with only bones left which I thought at one point was going start gnawing on. I had the beef bacon and blue as an appetizer which was an interesting choice. The blue cheese flavour definitely drowned any other tastes that might have in the dark gravy. Then I hade the stride and Tide which was a beef tenderloin with scallop stuffed with lobster wrapped in bacon. Scallops were over cooked but any one who has tried to cook bacon wrapped will know it is impossible to not over cook them as you try to get bacon to stop squealing. Tenderloin was cook correctly and tasty. The other items on the plate I.E. mashed potatoes and baby tomatoes were well prepared.

Popped in last Friday 30 min before kitchen closed. Was slightly worried things may be rushed or not "as good" as they could be but had limited options at that time for a nice sit down. Wasn't feeling like pub food or pizza. Felt real bad but was real hungry, Service and food were exceptional. Entertainment was lovely. Drinks were great. Preparation of the food was absolutely perfect - seasoning, cook, etc. Highly recommend. Both my wife and I LOVED our dishes. High praise to the kitchen team for taking exception care on a last minute late Friday order - we had Seafood Risotto and Atlantic Halibut.

Why do you ask if it's a special occassion? It was noted in the reservation and not acknowledged. Even Moxie's gives you a Birthday dessert. It's the little things. It was underwhelming in that respect.

My wife and I love special evenings out at the Press Gang. The atmosphere, food, and service are first class. We especially enjoy ordering “The Drill”. We are blown away each time at the unique and wonderful dishes prepared in this “one-of-a-kind” meal experience.

We had The Drill for my wife's birthday. It was fantastic. We learned that it's different every night and that there is always one time it's ordered, every night! It was a perfect meal served by the Executive Chef and paired with perfect drinks. Thanks so much for a wonderful evening.

Thankfully there was a pre set 3 course menu for $50; otherwise an entree alone is $50. Waiter should've asked if we'd like to order drinks while waiting for last guest to arrive. Blackened haddock was underdone to the point of being like sushi. Cheesecake was Devine! We had a timeline due to a concert and staff met that request

We did the dine around, and it was not great. Each course had a miss. We were also seated in the very back of the restaurant when there were a lot of empty tables in the main area.... For $200 it was not worth it.

The oysters were good, the charcuterie board was good. My duck was chewy, the salad was plain and my husbands Tide and Stride was okay. His steak was good but the bacon lobster scallop was meh. The scallop was poorly cooked, there was like no lobster in the wrap at all. It was for sure not worth the price we paid for the meals.
