I had a horrible experience in this restaurant. The owner was nasty. I wanted to put the tip on my credit card, because I did not have enough money to pay for the whole tip. I was taking my aunt for dinner. (Her sister just passed).
He told me no tips on credit cards. I asked why isn't there any signs in the restaurant or why didn't the waitress tell me I can't put the tip on my credit card before I ordered. He said everyone knows. He then decided to yell over my head and tell my aunt that I do not have enough money for the tip. I already told him that there was a death in the family and he kept raising his voice.
I just wanted to get out of their fast. He started coming towards me and still yelling. I had to tell him to step back twice.
I was so uncomfortable I just wanted to leave and not come back. I felt bad for my aunt. She was mourning the passing of her sister and had to be stuck in the middle of this situation. It was horrible..

I love Athena Greek Restaurant in Amityville. I haven't found a Greek restaurant I like better in the area. I don't want to name the places I think are awful because I don't give bad reviews. I realize how it can have a negative effect on a business. If I don't like it I just don't go back. The food is amazing. The Spanakopita is excellent. I get the Chicken in an orange ginger sauce or the berry sauce. I have become a regular patron and I will continue to come once a week. They do great take out as well. The service is great you will not be disappointed.

Been going here since I was a little kid as the go to for Greek food. Usually done take out. Well I went in the other night and tried their lamb shank special and decided to write this review. Service and food was absolutely phenomenal. Should've taken a photo, lamb was beyond tender and succulent. 10/10

A hidden gem of a restaurant. Tables for 2-4-6 and they will put tables together. Great Greek menu, the best entrees are on the specials. The salmon Rhodes in Phylow dough with a cream sauce is my favorite. My hubby loves the Veal Mediterranean. Friendly, prompt service. Make reservations on Friday and Saturday nights or you'll be locked out.

DISCLAIMER: I rarely write reviews and never thought I'd take the time to write a negative one. However, my recent experience at Athena left me no choice but to tell my story. Backstory For two decades, my family has been consistent Athena customers. The food is very good and we enjoy eating Greek. Unfortunately, a shadow hangs over this place stemming solely from the owner, Mike (AKA Satan's Spawn), whose repugnant and reprehensible reign of terror has reached the point of no return. Stepping into his restaurant creates a sense of dread and anxiety. Walking on eggshells around Mike has isn't anything new, as his temper flares at the slightest "inconvenience," whether it's a simple question about the menu or his palpable frustration as he takes down your order. As if dealing with this abrasive, prima donna was the only tax one had to pay for your meal, the last year 3 years or so, our to-go orders are incorrect about 75% of the time. The best part: Mike blames the mistake on you, never accepting accountability. And he makes you wait a half-hour while the order is prepared, all the while your original order gets cold and soggy. And as I'm sure you guessed, you always pay full price. Those entering the restaurant will unquestionably notice the somber atmosphere within the dining room -- a direct result of Mike's brooding, irascible demeanor. Clearly, his behavior has driven away customers who'd much prefer to dine in than have to deal with his tantrums. Recent Events While the food at Athena has been the primary reason for our loyalty, our recent encounter was the final straw. We put in a to-go order for a family member's birthday and this again turned into an absolute fiasco -- two of the entrees we ordered were simply forgotten. (We obviously learned to check the bag before leaving) Rather than taking responsibility for the error, Mike predictably shifted the blame onto us, again demanding full payment and subjecting to us to a 30 minute wait. TL:DR Mike from Athena is a gaping a$$hole and he does not deserve your business.
As a first time customer and having read many of the reviews.... I agree with the foods flavor (chicken Slovaki) being great. The unfortunate part was when my simple request of asking "can the chicken be chopped smaller please", I was met with "that's not possible, the size is how it's prepared and nothing can be done about that"..... I went there because of great reviews....Good food bad Service
