Great place and wonderful owners! I work in the medical building nearby and Empire deli is my go to spot. They offer a big selection of breakfast items and delicious deli sandwiches. They also have the best iced coffee and bubble tea. 5 stars!!

There is something about a place that prides itself on its food, particularly its sandwiches, both hot and cold, but yet doesn't make sandwiches within two and a half hours before closing. Case in point: my visit here recently. I came in here at about 5:20 pm, looking for a hot sandwich. I was informed that the grill had closed at 4:30. All right, oh well, how about a cold sub? I can go with that. Sorry, no sandwiches AT ALL. So let me get this straight; you're open till 7 pm, it's 5:20 pm, and you CAN'T MAKE ANY SANDWICHES? AT ALL? Clearly something isn't right here. What is the point of having a deli open till 7, if the last 2 1/2 hours are no sandwiches? I usually can understand a lot of things, but this practice is incomprehensible and unacceptable.

Empire Deli at 176-57 Union Turnpike makes the Best Philly cheese steak in Queens New York. I ordered philly cheese steak on a whole wheat roll toasted with green peppers and onions. It came with red onions which I prefer. I swapped American cheese for cheddar cheese, added shredded lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise. They also offer chipotle mayo if you like a little bit of spice. It was grilled to perfection, very juicy and very delicious. the sandwich generously comes with a can of soda or a bottle of water for $9.53. including tax. There’s so many more sandwiches and wraps here I can’t wait to try. I’m surprised there’s not a line out the door.

Don’t know how this place has over 4 stars average. They r at most 3 and I am being very generous. The r like most Asian deli I been to. Very little meat on their cold cuts. They chop up the chicken on a cutlet (dunno y) price is somewhat on the higher side compared to the meat they give.

Eating a breakfast sandwich at Empire deli is a true rite of passage for any student at St. John’s University. The deli is located near the corner of Utopia Parkway and Union turnpike adjacent from the Queens campus gate 4 entrance. Whether you are stumbling in on a Saturday morning after a long Friday night or grabbing a quick breakfast before class they are a must try in Queens. The sign outside is much like the food that will greet you shortly after entering – nothing fancy. The red bubble lettering sign and large animated crown above is to the point, “EMPIRE DELI” and phone number listed right below.Upon entering the small deli, you will see an array of organized, yet cluttered shelves filled with basic household necessities and various snacks. To your right you will notice a few small tables and chairs for instore dinning. Ahead you will see a long counter and behind it a man cooking on a small skillet. You won’t get very far before being greeted by a petite woman standing directly behind the register. The greeting will vary depending on how familiar the owner and her husband are with you. If you are one of their 100+ regular customers, they will almost definitely know your order just by seeing you. If I happen to be with you this is how the exact order will go down, with a look up she will confirm my daily order, “Egg, hash brown, salt, pepper, chipotle, on a roll.”Orders can range from a simple egg, hash brown, and cheese, to a more complex egg, sausage, bacon, cheese, but one thing is always constant, their famous chipotle sauce. This where the real controversy lies, some prefer ketchup, and some prefer chipotle. What you choose will determine if I can ever be friends with you or not. The chipotle sauce at empire is what completes the sandwich and makes it better than anywhere else. I know it may sound odd to put a tangy chipotle mayo with eggs but just trust on this one, you will never look back. After confirming my order, she will look to you and wait for your response. Out of the hundreds of times I have eaten at Empire I have only once heard someone order a non-breakfast sandwich item. Sure, they may offer other things, but I assure you they don’t mean it. The menu posted above the counter claims they offer things like French toast and grilled cheese sandwiches, but to actually order something besides a breakfast sandwich is a rarity. For just $2.99 to $4.00 you can have the pleasure of experiencing one of the best sandwiches Queens has to offer, why pass that up for a grilled cheese?Once you have finished ordering you pay and a short few minutes later you will be given a plate of gold, well not literally, but it’s better than gold in my eyes. The faded brown tray holds a hefty breakfast that will surely have you filled well into the afternoon. The sandwich, wrapped in paper and foil, will be steaming as you open through the layers of wrapping. One bite in and I guarantee you will be hooked for life. The thin layer of egg will be toppled by a slightly thicker hash brown patty and oozing bright orange chipotle sauce. The flavors of the slightly salty egg mix perfectly with the warmth of the hash brown and zest of the tangy chipotle sauce for a dynamic yet overall simple flavor. The thick slightly chewy roll tops the whole sandwich off to leave you satisfied yet craving your next one.Yes, there are plenty of other deli’s along Union Turnpike that offer breakfast sandwiches. Some even offer the same combination of egg with their own chipotle sauce, but it is not quite the same. Empire is the cheapest and somehow best Union Turnpike has to offer. The others miss the mark in one way or another, either with outrages prices or lack of the same fresh quality Empire has mastered.
