This is best-of-breed classic Italian. Impeccable service. And it's quiet, so one can actually hear the conversation. Possibly the best high-end Italian cuisine in Manhattan, and a killer wine list as well, including some fine Bordeaux as well as a full range of Italian wines.

The restaurant is in need of a serious facelift...looks tired! The food was fresh and beautifully presented. I enjoyed an arugula salad with pecorino which was perfect. The tuna tartare fell flat, quite tasteless needing lots of salt and pepper to improve the flavor.

Quando ho prenotato per 31 dic non sono stata avvisata che sarebbe stata necessaria una cauzione e che era obbligatorio il loro menu. La cena non era adatta a bambini e neppure fornivano una sostituzione, ci hanno fatto pagare oltre 220 dollari per cibo cotto male, servito peggio assolutamente di scarso livello. Poco disponibili. La pasta cruda con funghi era pazzesca. Il pesce servito intero...una piadina bruciata per antipasto. Non lo consiglio a famiglie! Supervalutato nelle recensioni che avevo letto....
Had a spectacular dinner for 7 at Amaranth on a Wednesday night - it has such a warm and inviting ambience after spending a day in rainy NYC. The restaurant is beautifully decorated for the holidays and the staff welcomed us as if we were weekly regulars. They attended to every detail and our server answered our many questions with patience (thank you!). The food was delicious and didn't take long to appear. Great place to relax after a day in the city and enjoy some wine, we were never rushed and the desserts were classic Italian and excellent. We will back!

Needed a place near where I was meeting friends. Did a cursory check on this restaurant. No red flags, so booked it. Didn't have any tall expectations. Figured we'd get something basic and get out of there. Boy was I wrong. Even the basic was good. I had the burger (if you're brave enough to put a burger on your menu I'm ordering it!). Was excellent well done. All 5 of us enjoyed our food. Another example of how great the NYC dining scene is. This would be considered an “average” restaurant by the ratings but it would be the best restaurant if it were in your neighborhood.
