Skinny Chic

On two separate dishes there were foreign objects found in the food, eggshells in fried chicken and some texture like a rock but it’s like plastic pieces in hamburger. Staff was not apologetic at all, their response was “oh again?” Water glasses weren’t refilled and prices were incredibly high, $12 for a bun-less hamburger and a plain 3 egg omelette! Cost $42 unbelievable.

My friend and I tried their omurice, tofu, and croquettes. While each dish was nice and satisfying, I must admit that considering the price point, they were merely alright and nothing particularly memorable. It’s a casual place to enjoy food, but I was hoping for a bit more flavor or uniqueness to justify the cost. Overall, it’s an okay spot if you’re in the mood for a simple meal, but don’t expect anything extraordinary.

Food is fine, a bit too salty. Menu is somehow overpriced.

Loved this place! The most authentic yōshoku (western style Japanese food) one can find in NYC, from presentation to the food itself. Ordered the curry with Tonkatsu and every bite was delicious. Tonkatsu was perfectly crispy and the curry went really well with it also. If you pay a little bit extra you get 5 small side dishes and a miso soup, that I think was well worth the price. The only complaint I have was that the miso soup was a bit salty, but it was not too bad. The restaurant was pretty spacious, which is hard to find in the East Village. Bonus point: we went there at 9:30pm and we stayed until they started to close - but they were patient and did not rush us at all.

I sincerely like this place. Short and sweet menu. And nearly everything is on point and taste fantastic. But the portion Vs the Price is a bit disproportionate.Everything was on the smaller portion side and it was a little disappointing for a decent amount of price.I would be gladly paying higher prices for a bit more food. Even just a scoop more of the rice. And eggs. The omurice was size more for someone who is smaller appetite.Everything was delicious but almost a bit tiny.I would come back but only if my feeling to treat myself.

The atmosphere of Aoi is excellent. The food is satisfactory. The katsu curry was a little creamy for my taste, but overall satisfied my craving. The chicken nanban was tasty, but unusual — the sauce was sticky and sweet, resembling teriyaki more than traditional nanban sauce, which is thinner and slightly sour. The meat for both dishes was on the dry side. The rice for both dishes came out slightly cold and lacked moisture.Though the food took 45 minutes to come out, the cozy ambience, retro decor, and jazzy Japanese music made the wait bearable.

Good and fast service. Ambience was mellow-good; with coworker’s low talk or solo seaters.Tips: Most ordered item is the “Loco Moco”. Gobbled it up, however ask for the the Demi-glaze sauce on the side, because it can be a little too much, if you like your rice un-doused.P.s. The blue-cushioned wooden seats were so comfy to lean back in. (Great design!)Wheelchair accessibility: Entrance is located down the stairs, so not accessible.

Decent fare for Japanese food. There were hardly any people when I went there, so great place for a date.

Food: good, but not mind blowing. Definitely not complaining, but also didn't change my life and not the most memorable.Service: extremely accommodating, pleasant, quick, unrushed, on point experience. The service was spectacular. Kudos.Atmosphere: classy, low key, on the intimate side. Comfortable and welcoming.

Aoi Kitchen has such a cute, cozy interior and some great food as well! We came here for a casual date and had a good time. I was craving some Japanese-style omurice, so I ordered that with some katsu. The egg was soft and the fried rice was subtly flavored, pairing very well with the demi-glace sauce (which you can replace with curry for an extra dollar if you wish!). The ebi sandwich was crunchy and yummy as well, although the flavor of the shrimp wasn't as strong as expected (which I personally liked).

Nice vibes and pretty chic interior design. Miso soup is way too salty, demi glacé sauce is a bit much sour, small dishes for teishoku are quite nicely seasoned and flavorful. Overall a cool place for hanging out with friends.
