Go try this place!! The owner Michael is so helpful and passionate about his work. The sandwiches are big, delicious and fresh! We got 5 of them today: mozzarella, roast beef, chicken, sausage (our favorite!), and artichoke (today's special). I try to come here whenever I am in town.
The best sandwiches anywhere around. Make sure to top it off with 2 pasteis for the road. Chef Michael makes you feel right at home. The service is impeccable.

The Chef was very professional, friendly and helpful. The octopus sandwich was the best I have ever had. The bread was warm, had a crunchy crust, the vegetables were fresh, and the octopus was tender. I also got the pastel da nata that were warm and delicious. The homemade ice tea was refreshing. I am definitely coming back.

I had the sardine sandwich - fresh, pickled sardines, onions, cilantro and some olive oil in fresh Portuguese bread. Simple, straightforward, really delicious! The bread was excellent; if they just sold bread, I’d buy a couple for home. I appreciate how nothing seems “too much” - no one ingredient or condiment is overpowering or overrepresented. The chef knows how to balance flavors, which is easier said than done.I also had the pastel de nata which was a real treat as I hadn’t eaten one since I was in Lisbon nearly two years ago.I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu. Top notch ?
I read a write up in Newsday and knew I wanted to check this place out when I was in the Hicksville area. Smartwich is located inside a bakery. Michael, the owner and chef is so friendly and you can tell he really cares about quality ingredients. I got the Crudo and every bite was delicious! The bread is amazing and so fresh. Read about this shop in my local paper. Some coworkers and I made the trip for lunch. We shared four smartwiches that day. Octopus, artichoke hearts, chicken, and roasted pork. Each one was better than the last. They exploded with flavor. Unique ingredient combinations. We were all raving about them. We also bought a couple of rolls on the side just to tear up and dip in some of the five smart sauces they have to choose from.This is not your run of the mill sandwich shop. Careful consideration is given to each ingredient. It is very clear that this is a labor of love for the chef who doubles as the owner.I loved it so much that I went back the next day for the crudo. Wow, so many textures and flavors with each bite. Since I made the 25 minute trip, I I thought it was worth the time to pick up the roast beef and another artichoke heart smartwich for my wife and I to split for dinner.The only thing keeping me from going there for lunch every day is the distance, but make no mistake, this is a special find here on Long Island.

What I got was one of the most, different, favorable and tasty sandwiches I have ever had. Going back for the other choice for sure. Good job. Gratzie!

This is my second time eating Chefs Smartwich. Today it was an office affair !! We had the artichoke & burnt pepperoni special, the bacon smartwich & the roast beef smartwich. Each bite of each smartwich was scrumptiously delicious. Everyone in my office is still talking about it. We intend to make this a weekly event ?.We ordered the night before at the Smartwhich website and it was ready on time, hot and fresh and perfect.Chef is an absolute delight. I love everything about him. If you haven’t been there yet, run!!
