I order delivery from sobaya often. I love the rice bowls and pumpkin. Feels like a perfectly healthy meal. I haven’t eaten there in person so I can’t comment on service or atmosphere.

Yummy soba place located in east Village. The soba is the perfect consistency. I ordered the shrimp tempura, and it was perfectly fried and fresh. The portion is a decent size for the price. Broth could be on the saltier side but it is soba! The atmosphere is so cute. It’s really like I traveled to Japan!

Unfortunately, I think this place is likely overrated. My wife and I love cold soba noodles, so we treated ourselves with the most expensive soba option on the menu, each ordering the same dish. It was very disappointing, the noodles were tough and the whole dish lacked flavor. We actually returned the dishes. The staff were incredibly kind though and understanding. We ordered again and tried two different hot udon dishes. Both of these were better than the soba, but definitely mediocre. So we had three different dishes - 1 bad, 2 sub par.

Got the tanuki soba. The broth was lukewarm and had more acidity than I expected…beautiful place but not the best for soba.

Ehhh…soba tasted like soba? Nothing out of the ordinary. I expected better but the ambiance is very authentic Japanese. The price.. I think is too pricy compared to the portion size . The minimum is 17 dollars and the rest is over 20 dollars for a bowl of noodle.

Yummy, with a good selection of sobas both hot and cold. They have lunch specials. My favorite is the tempura soba (hot).

Very authentic and tasty soba noodle joint in East Village. Sobaya serves traditional soba noodle dishes and a few other appetizers plus rice dishes.I ordered the tempura hot soba since it was popular and it was my first time trying this restaurant. The dish came with 3 shrimp and 1 shishito tempura which was freshly fried and well portioned. The soup itself came with a lot of noodles and a hearty broth. The flavors tasted very traditional.Inside the cafe gives Japanese vibes and feels homey. Overall this spot is good if you’re looking for a nice and light dinner option.

Very nice staff and menu options. They were very busy but the turnover was quick so we were able to be sat without a long wait. Service was quick and friendly. Menu has a little bit of everything at average prices for the city. I enjoyed their specials and would definitely recommend them, the other dishes were executed very well, but some of the flavor profiles were not as exciting. Overall I would say it's worth the stop and try some well prepared food.

I was surprised that the stewed pumpkin appetizer was $13 with 6 small pumpkin slices and 3 thinly sliced shiitake mushrooms. I would understand if the pumpkin had been cut a little larger. . . I order tonpura soba every year, but this time the soba was average. The tempura that came with the soba was smaller than before. Rent is only going up, and prices are high, so maybe it can't be helped. I'm so grateful just to know that the store is open.

This is a Japanese restaurant in the East Village ?I don't know because I haven't eaten many different menus, but it was Japanese food from Japan! Some of the staff are Japanese, but there are also quite a few foreigners, so don't expect Japanese-style service. It seems to be a popular restaurant, and even if a table is empty, another customer will come right away!
