We had 730 reservations on Friday night and were seated immediately. The entire restaurant and bar were packed. This is a lively and loud place, especially so close to happy hour. By 830, the volume lowered to tolerable even tho restaurant still full. The food was excellent as was the service - our waiter was a doll. The simple grilled fish was great - we had cod. The mac’n cheese was delicious. No dessert menu but everyone was served a complimentary little dish of chocolate pudding with a dollop of cream. This is a fun place but be prepared to talk loudly and/or lip read.
We tried a variety of happy hour dishes, such as clam chowder, and the lobster mac'n cheese. Everything was great, we had excellent service and we enjoyed the vibe. It's too bad the UWS location is closing.

My friend and I enjoyed the most delicious dinner! The service was so quick and the food was delicious. We had 2 different salmon entrees on the menu- hers was the simple fish and mine was the one on kale. So fresh, cooked perfectly and amazing flavor. The Brussels sprouts were also great as was a very generous side salad. The bonus of the chocolate pot de creme was a wonderful final touch by the chef! I highly recommend!

Best oysters hands down in all of NYC. Malcolm was awesome taking care of us. He was very attentive and made great recommendations. Your entire staff was extremely courteous and professional from start to finish. Thank you for a great evening!!
It was amazing, as always! I am so sad that they are closing on Sunday. Another victim of landlords who have no interest in caring for local businesses and maintaining the neighborhood. Thank you Mermaid inn and it's owners and staff for being our "Cheers" for so many years - for providing the locals a place to call their own, for always providing excellent food, drinks, service and ambience. We hope you come back to the West 80s. You will be missed greatly.

We love the mermaid inn. We can't believe it's closing for good. The food is delicious. Our favorite dish is the branzino. I recommend you go there before it's too late.

We mostly go for the Happy Hour, but last night our family went later in the evening. The service was even better and the food was delicious. The Mermaid Inn is going to be greatly missed on Amsterdam Ave on the Upper West Side!

The Mermaid UPS is closing down until it finds a new home in Spring, 2023. This has been my favorite place for many years, but in the last few weeks, I've been very disappointed 1) because it's so busy with people like me trying to get in a few last Happy Hours before they are no more, 2) the quality of the menu seems to be a little off (my salmon was not medium as ordered, and wasn't as good or finished as nicely as it used to be, and 3) The Mermaid has installed new clear plastic windows between the sidewalk and the outdoor dining space, where I always sit. Out waiter pointed this out to my party after we sat down and we complained about the noise level around us. We couldn't hear each other speak, and ended up shouting. So...goodbye for now, dear Mermaid. Hope to see you again in better times. xox
I have been to Mermaid Inn before. I had brunch for the first time. There are several great choices on the menu. I like the atmosphere. Service could have been a little better. For example, when refilling coffee check milk refill. I will definitely return. I wish them well in the new renovation. Also I know new locations are opening. The food is always excellent.
We are going to miss these folks until they find and open their next uws location. It is our favorite local, bar none. In the meantime, looks like we visit the new Times Square location when they open in Dec.

Great selection of oysters and they were very high quality! Server attentive and on-the-ball, busy, noisy room, hope the new location is a few more blocks downtown! We'll be back!
Oh, Hapoy Hour at the Mermsid Inn! Always a treat to look forward to. Oysters and sparkling wine to start—cold and freshly shucked. Best in neighborhood. Service was cordial and wide welcoming smiles. On a rainy Tuesday, but the place soon was packed with happy diners.

The Mermaid Inn is just a lovely place for a meal. Kid friendly without being too much so, great staff and delicious food. The gratis chocolate pudding is a highlight and the buttered hot rolls were a treat. The fish and oysters were fresh and delicious. Hoping they don't move too far away on the UWS!
