This type of restaurant usually isn’t my vibe. But we visited after seeing it on Instagram through Danielle Guizio, the fashion designer. (I know, cringe.) But my husband’s name is Zim, so naturally, the name caught my eye. I knew it was a collaboration between Guizio’s sister and a chef with experience at Lodi, so I expected a beautifully designed space catering more to the scene than to serious dining.
Since we recently had a baby, I messaged ahead to ask if we could check or collapse a stroller, knowing this wasn’t the kind of place to show up unannounced with one. They let me know they couldn’t accommodate it, which initially put me off but made sense once we saw the layout.
When we arrived a doorman handled coat check, though in reality, coats were being stored in a car outside. He was the only one who wished us well after the meal. While it was annoying to get my coat back cold, I felt bad watching him run back and forth all night.
The restaurant itself is simple and elegant, filled with a mix of fashionable young diners and middle-aged, well-off patrons. We noticed a few influencers schmoozing the owner, though she seemed more focused on her friends and the restaurant’s flow. The chef and owner were actively running the floor. It was clear this place was their passion project, but engagement was mostly reserved for familiar faces and those who made an effort to be noticed.
The Food
Mediocre at best. Our appetizers were far better than our entrées. We ordered the artichoke soup, tagliatelle, pork, and lamb stew. The soup and pasta were solid, especially if you enjoy organ meats, which featured heavily in both. However, the pork dish was disjointed. The pork itself was cooked well, but the bitter greens and accoutrements didn’t tie the flavors together in a cohesive way. My husband, who always finishes his plate, left more than half behind. I boxed it up, only to throw it out days later.
I heard they’re opening a wine bar next door, which seems like a smart move for their niche. If they focus on small plates and wine, they might have something.

Exceptional food. Very happy to have this in the neighborhood.
Zimmi’s was a perfect experience. From the intimate setting, fantastic wine, excellent bartender, and of course, a brilliant menu with each dish being as superb as the next, I would come back to Zimmi’s in an instant.
P.S. -the one star reviews are completely unjust

What a charming edition to the neighborhood! I would describe this as delicious home cooked French food. We especially loved the foie gras and the leeks in a savory sauce topped eggs with orange yolks. Jenni guided us in selected a lovely bottle of Bordeaux. The servers and staff are sweet and helpful. We’ll be back! Kudos and congratulations to the chef and owners.

Perfection in the west village. Tiny spot with cozy interiors (loved the sconces) and excellent service. Order the Pissaladiere and the pesto pasta.

The food isn't good. Ill conceived and poorly executed, flatbreads, etc are a soog mess. Pork roas is the wrong cut, and though cooked correctly, it was just a bunch
of meat chunks. Pesto eas better butcstill gummy.

The atmosphere at Zimmi’s was very cozy, which I appreciated because Nyc is currently in the middle of some nail biting temperatures preventing many of us from venturing far from our homes. As someone who also has the name Zimmi, I was quite tickled when they opened and had to try! Their wine list is extensive and we ordered two pasta dishes on the menu. It was very busy as the space only has a limited number of tables.

Feels very much like a money grab. The barbajuans were just very small dry dough with barely any fillings and zero salt or any flavor for $13, which was criminal to serve. Artichoke soup was delicious. The lamb in the saupiquet d’agneau had a chicken meat texture and didn’t have any lamb meat flavors, and it was $42 for like a tiny plate.
Service started out very good, but we felt that it got progressively worse since we didn’t want to order more food.
Wine was extremely good though, excellent selection.

Really not a great experience. The wine pour was about a third of a serving compared to other restaurants for $20 a glass, and the glass and red wine chilled on a freezing cold 15 degree evening in nyc. Food was fairly good, few choices, but crowded chilly space lacking much personality or intimacy despite small size. Left hungry and had to go get a nice warm red glass elsewhere after dinner.

What a lovely, hidden gem in the West Village. I don’t have enough great things to say about our dining experience at Zimmis. The ambiance, food, the service.. the list goes on. We cannot wait to go back. A definite must try!
Favorites:
1. Aria wine
2. Linguini with chicken ragout 🍝
Great food, service and ambiance, but the wine offering is what sets this restaurant apart. Whether you have never tried wine or have explored the wonders of wine for over 50 years as I have, put yourself in the hands of the wine steward and take his recommendations. These were the best wine pairings I have ever had in a restaurant- for every course!! Incredible selection and every recommendation perfect!! A truly world class experience. If you live in the city, commute in to work there or are just a visitor, put Zimmi’s on your must try list!!
