Did pick up on the spur of the moment. Was ready on time. Food was hot and tasty. Even my finicky one enjoyed her shrimp. I tried something new (the haddock) and enjoyed it and the sauces quite a bit. Yummy.
Always had great meals at the Fish Friar. Lobster rolls are great when they're available, love the haddock sandwiches. I love the tartar sauce but it's different, so be aware with kids who might be expecting typical Hellmann's style.

A surprising find in the middle of downtown. Not much room but it's charming and cozy inside. What stood out the most is the quality of their fried food. Zero bitterness from the oil. They know what they are doing here. Also, some of the best potato salad I've had.

We came in the middle of a snowstorm on a Saturday night. The restaurant was nearly empty, so we sat down immediately. the staff are friendly and attentive and ready with recommendations, including a small selection of local brews. The fried calamari appetizer was the tenderest I've ever had. Of course, the fried haddock was hot, crispy, and deeply tanned. Cioppino was a just right spicy with some XL scallops and mussels, tender. Music was a bit loud at first, but fit the atmosphere with a blues jazz background.

I had a great experience at The Fish Friar. We had great conversations with couples there who were very informative. We got some great inside info. on The Friar as well as other places in the Syracuse area. The food and the service were excellent, we had some great laughs!!Parking: We went later in the evening when the meters were not in effect.
