Friendly greeting and was seated immediately. Waitress promptly took out beverage order, served it and we ordered dinner. Food was quality we expected. We had a pleasant experience.
Service was poor, with a server who was very inattentive. No check ups for drinks and I was brought the wrong bourbon. Burnt ends were ordered and the portion was very small, especially for $22. The majority of my burnt ends was fat pieces. The restaurant has potential but lacks service and portions.
What a wonderful experience...We have been to the Barrel and Boar in Gahanna quite a few times so we found ourselves in Newark. We really enjoyed brunch at their Newark location. The restaurant is quaint with that old building vibe. The service was spot on - Abby is a rock star waitress. I had the Caroliner which is basically shrimp and grits with 2 fried eggs on top which was delicious. Wifie had the big breakfast which was unique but equally as delicious. This place is worthy of a return visit...
Blackberry mule and pork belly and broccoli were great. Bartender (maybe named Brook) was also great. Other servers were also friendly and seemed to enjoy their job. I plan to return the next time I'm in town.
Hands down, best restaurant in Newark. You can order anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed. The staff are some of the nicest people and they make sure your time there is amazing.10/10 I reccomend this place to anyone.
This place is AMAZING from the time you walk in you are welcomed by friendly faces as well as the aroma of smoked food. We tried several appetizers corn, grilled watermelon but the shrimp and grits were the stars of the evening. Nice portion great flavor profiles nice size shrimp and plenty of sausage. My Husband got the barrel boar burger and I had the buttermilk chicken and veggies. Everything was great. Tim the G.M continued to check in on tables if your in the area do yourself a favor and stop in. You wont be disappointed
This was our first experience here. Absolutely could not have been happier. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful, the food was beyond anything we expected. The were full with reservations but the manager suggested sitting at the bar. The waitress/bartender was Jenna B. and she did an amazing job. Thank you so much for making this date night one to remember.
On a whim we went to Barrel & Boar tonight, I ordered the salmon and was absolutely shocked about how good it was.. You know when you can't stop saying how good something was? That's how good it was. Perfect and very tasty. Great flavor. I hate it when you order salmon and it either tastes like it came from the freezer, tastes fishy or comes out dry. It can so often be a disappointment. This salmon dish alone will make me return to this restaurant. I gave the chef a compliment and he came out to thank me. Great young man named Colten who has a very bright future ahead of him. It was honestly the kind of dish you would expect to find in a gourmet, expensive restaurant. I'm glad I can get that kind of meal locally, affordably and casually. We will be back. All the Glueten Free options are listed on the menu and there are lots of them.
Ordered a caesar salad and it arrived looking like this it was returned and taken off bill but how does this get served in a restaurant.without cook or server thinking this doesn't look edible. It was explained to us that it is a cooked salad thst is suppose to be charred but restaurant doesn't have a boiler so salad cannot be cooked correctly. This is explained after it was ordered, placed and rejected by a customer and then admitting restaurant cannot cook the salad correctly but we will still slide it in front of a customer at a price $12-$15.Manager did explain due to the salad being returned so much Barrel and Boar will be removing this from the menu and going back with the traditional ceasar salad...If someone had salad that looked like this in their refrigerator they would throw it away.Unfortunatly any restaurant that would serve this salad and then provide the excuse that was provided for why it was served like it was will not be open much longer without major changes.
We have never had a bad meal here. The roasted brussel sprouts are delicious!! The Flying Hawaiian, the burgers and the burnt ends are awesome. Manager has always been there and comes to table to be sure you are having a good experience.

Went to Barrel and Boar downtown Newark on 3rd Street . When you walk in you smell the aroma of smoked meats .Definitely will go back. The food is wonderful, the people were so friendly and helpful . The sweet tea was better than any I've had out. Now some people like super sweet. I do not. This tea was like if I had made it at home. Sweet but not too sweet. They have seats for every type of person. Weather you like tall seats, short seats, table or booth they have it all !!
"Good food and beautiful people." -my son. Pulled pork is moist and flavorful, beef brisket has a delicious, smokey flavor made better by the sweet and smokey bbq sauce, the mashed potatoes are smooth as silk, and the burgers are smashing! The friendly and helpful staff will bring you back for more if the brownie doesn't do the trick. Repete costumers for life!
Food was very good. Want to go back again soon. I had the brisket and it was tender and tasty. My friend had the sweet potato fries and they were delicious.
Our party liked the food overall. My Bloody Mary was jus ok, mostly tomato juice. The glass of red wine was acidic as if bottle had been open a while. We ordered the carrot hummus. It was very plain. I would not order it again. The shrimp and grits was tasty although very soupy. The burgers were very good. If in town, I would definitely go again and try something different.
Fisrt time at at B & B but I enjoyed the food very much. It was a little pricey, but everything is more expensive these days with inflation so I take that in stride, and the value is still there. I would definitely go again. Plenty of interesting items that caught my eye.
