Tried a new place. Was okay.

We came to Congee House for a Sunday lunch with our family, including young kids. The place was mostly empty, so it was easy to find parking and seating. Prices were fair, food was decent, and service was okay—they were helpful when the kids spilled water and didn’t seem bothered by the baby making a bit of a mess.

However, one major issue soured the experience. The TV was showing a show with guns, violence, and kidnapping—clearly inappropriate for a family meal. My husband politely asked the staff to change the channel, but was told no. When he asked again later in Chinese, pointing out the violent content, the staff finally (and reluctantly) switched it to something more neutral. It left us feeling pretty uncomfortable that this even had to be asked, especially on a quiet Sunday afternoon with kids around.

Overall, the food was fine but the atmosphere didn’t feel very family-friendly. Not sure we’d return.

Great location for people on the north side of Markham. Quality rivals long time well established restaurants and their variety is amazing. Everything from rice rolls to simply a stir fried beef rice noodle, to even spare ribs, they’re all full of flavour and always tender. Strongly recommend for everyone around cathedral town or near that area!

Pleasantly surprised! Dishes are smaller but the prices reflects that!

Nice quiet place for lunch, the beef noodles soup was amazing, general tao chicken spiced perfectly.. highly recommend.

Me and my friends came over and had a meal. But once it comes to the payment we only give cash as the perfected amount with no tips cause we are just High school kids that doesn’t have much. This dude after notices the tips he hasn’t received he gave us an attitude. Like what gives an old men showing us such a behaviour to some young teenagers for that little bit of money. At the end we had to look through our backpacks to even find those $1-2 dollar coins for his pleasing. True let unbelievable behaviour for a full time server. In others cases the food is overall mid and not that good as i expected. Most of the things are dry and in some cases food portions are good but the others are small. The balance is just sooo off. I don’t recommend coming here with the very few number of customers.

We ordered congee and fried salty fish rice for take out. Food was so good and really fresh.

Great food

Very disappointing. Congee was pretty much clear liquid water. I can tell they grabbed the rice directly from their rice cooking and use it to make their congee because there are chucks of rice when I was eating it.

I CAN understand with prices going up and all but would it really affect the business to add more substance/toppings into the congee? There was only 3 pieces of 2mm thickness of pork liver. That's insane. In the food business you can't cheap out! Charge more if you have to but seriously that's crazy amount for 8$ plus tax

Decent tasting HK cafe, not too busy. The beef with Chinese brocolli here was fairly good. Pricing was fair as well.

I bought a beef without any beef. It is just fried flower! Horrible! But the other two dishes are not too bad.

Tasty n fresh but portion for noodle and rice dish brutally SMALL. Rice n noodles are not expensive unless they did that to us only.
2 adults and 4 children. Had to order more than usual and kids complained they didnt eat enough had to get bubbke tea after bc we felt bad. Servers sufficient not friendly tho. Environment felt dead. Hardly anyone there for Sunday afternoon.
