I love Southern comfort food and this place checks all the boxes! The shrimp and grits were amazing. Cheesy grits with large prawns and a killer garlicky sauce. My brunch companions loved the huevos rancheros, the catfish sammie and the fried chicken. Great price on a bottle of Brut too. And last, but not least, excellent service from Jake! Highly recommended!!

We arrived on time. Placed our order and waited. And waited. Watched all the tables that were sat after us receive their food. We kept asking and were told our food should be out shortly. Finally I grabbed the manager and asked. She came back with our server and plates of food we didn't order. We ordered huevos rancheros, sawmill breakfast and praline bacon. It was not a difficult order. They showed up with plates of fried chicken. We left a $20 on table for the cocktail that was consumed and we left, starving. Quite possibly the most disappointing Portland food experience I have had.

Seating was prompt, service was courteous, friendly and efficient. Now, let's talk about the food. Wonderful, amazing, authentic .....!!! Our table of 6 had fried catfish, fried chicken, crayfish etouffee, collard greens, mashed potatoes, mac 'n cheese .. we sampled almost the entire menu. And do not forget to order the deviled eggs with bacon ... excellent. It was like the best Sunday supper I ever had in my youth in the South.

Busy, busy, busy.... Always. I have never been here without a wait.. But who really cares about that when you see all that food walking by you and your stomach is growling. Always good, always fresh... Fried chicken, greens, catfish, Mac and cheese....i can't even talk about it any more... There was enough for two meals... Really good as leftovers!!! Isn't that the real way to judge good food... If it is still good the second day.. Can't wait to go back... Try that freaking amazing Banoffee pie..Parking: Just take a freaking Uber or Lyft... It will save you the stress of driving around and around....lol.. Unless you enjoy that, of course.

Chicken and waffles were delicous. The Collard greens were the best I've hag in a restaurant of course my moms are better. But for a restaurant, they were superb. My husband got the ettuffe. He said it was the best he's had including meals he got when we were in New Orleans.
Best food I have had in a long time... Definitely recommend..

Super friendly staff, fun environment, and delicious food. The chicken and waffles were recommended, but I wish I had gotten one of the other things. Chicken was good, but didn't look as good as the juevos rancheros. But I'm pretty sure that everything is good.

Our waitress was great the food was awesome but the wait to get a table during to the rush hour was long, and the wait to get the food on the table was a buzz kill. I am going back there again but this time I learn my lesson try to make a reservation before I get there .

It was my first visit to Screen Door after hearing about it for decades. I was disappointed. The food was just okay. I had the praline waffle. I liked it but didn't love it. My companion had the huevos rancheros. She liked it but didn't love it. The noise level was so high that it was hard to have a conversation and I left with a sore throat from trying to talk. The best thing about the experience was the service. It was excellent.
Stoped into my old favorite Screen Door in PDX and to my amazement they were more fantastic than I remembered! Fried Okra is my comfort food and they perfected it. The wings on the bbq plate are topps! Do yourself a favor get some. Skrrrtttt…

I don’t usually give feedback and ratings but my experience at this restaurant really warranted a review. While in Portland on business attending a conference, my colleagues and I had heard about this restaurant and had high hopes. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. We made a reservation and were seated without any problem. However, four parties that arrived after us received their food in a timely manner before our party while we had to wait much longer. When my food arrived, it was lukewarm to cold. I got the BBQ platter. The food was bland and not very well seasoned, but my expectations for good bbq coming from the south should have been tempered.Regarding the service, it started well, but quickly declined. Our server became very flippant when anyone would ask for a straw, water refills, etc.It became so egregious that I was about to walk to the bar for a water refill from the bartender because the server completely forgot my request. It appeared the service declines when they automatically add the gratuity for a large party (8), so I wasn’t able to leave a reduced gratuity amount. I expressed my displeasure about the service with the server and the manager who came over to inquire about my displeasure. However, she did not offer much in the area of an apology. Rather, she said it was a busy night and this was a good server. The manager’s action seemed to be focused more on diffusing the interaction with the server than offering good customer service. If you are in Portland looking for a great dining experience, skip this place and try Matador down the street. Much better service and food.
